IMPORTANT REGARDING CHAT
#0IMPORTANT REGARDING CHAT
Posted: 6/13/03 at 11:43amIf you use the chat room, be aware that a certain user likes to change his handle to names similar (if not exactly) to other users' handles. Then, he attacks other patrons and stirs things up as that person. So, be sure that you are speaking to your friend before taking anything said as truth. I've emailed Rob about this. FYI--I've never said anything rude or gotten into any fights in the chat room, so if you thought that jrb_actor did--it was not me. =)

I've disabled the /nick command in the chat room which should solve the confusion here...

Posted: 6/13/03 at 7:48pmWell, I don't know if anyone has seen my name in there, but if you have then it wasn't me. I've never been in the chat room.

It wasn't me either. I haven't been in the chat room in a long while.
Rob, I do have a question--non related. What is ColdFusion? I saw it on your other page and it sparks a memory but what is it? I know it has something to do with the net but is it a company or a program? If it's a program, what does it do?

ColdFusion is a web application programming language, made by Macromedia - http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/ - in English I describe it best as a way to integrate web applications with databases to create interactive web sites like this one. As part of my day job, I'm editor-in-chief of a magazine (on newsstands now!) devoted to ColdFusion. 98% of this site is built on it - practicing what I preach. ![]()

Posted: 6/14/03 at 1:04amLOL This is why I left business school. In one ear and out the other with me. I prefer the arts. Sorry Rob, but I think I got 2 words of that post in (I did read the whole thing) I just didn't absorb it....I started singing the theme song to the Golden Girls, which oddly enough I just heard Bernadette singing in a 1979 televised concert. LOL so it was kinda stuck in my head (even before I read the Golden Girls thread again).

Thanks, Rob. I will check out the site but since I have an expert on it subject to ask--Is your magazine for the teckie type or does it have a section for the beginner? I'm very interested in web design and I know I need to take some classes but what should I take? Is there a ColdFusion class?
I know there are machine languages–we’ve come a long way from BASIC–That’s Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instructional Code, for those who don’t know but what kind of code is something like ColdFusion written in or is it Windows based?
I'm so impressed with this site --I gotta tell you Rob when you added the news links I was blown away. It's giving me ideas for other kinds of sites but I haven't got a clue as to how to start.
Thanks for the info, Rob.

Went to the site and saw the prices for the program. Yikes! A bit rich for my blood. Guess it's not made for the ordinary mortal. :)
Oh well, another idea bites the dust.

Take web design classes first, and then if you're interested ColdFusion classes. The basic stuff is fairly easier for beginners to pick up after they are familiar with web design. The software is pricey for servers, yes but I think there's a free version for home development, and there's loads of ISPs with it already installed.
