At this point, it's shaping up to look like a very heavily truthed rumor. Did someone say something about "2 months only?" Oh I could have sworn someone said that...
I think part of what makes "Wicked" exciting... and other shows for that matter... is the changing of casts and productions. The quiet hum of fans guessing builds a contagious fire for those who enjoy the show.
Let's just say there are going to be A LOT of new and up-coming changes to the 4 current "Wicked" productions. Lest we forget, we've got some principle cast member and locations changes coming up for all of the shows. Hang on for the ride.

one of my friends is in London and auditioned.....she admitted she wouldn't have been right for the role so I'm not cut for her particularly, but it still sucks a bit that out of all those who did audition, they'd give it to Idina to open. I mean it's WICKED. The title is selling point enough, isn't it? Give some British (or ex-pat Canadian, as my friend is
) girl a chance!

I'm with ruthiefan. Not that I'm going to see the show in London in any case, but if Wicked ever opens here, I'd be horrified if they brought over Idina or someone instead of trusting a local actress (and I am an emormous, insane fan of hers!). Though I doubt such a thing would ever happen here, luckily. I was just commenting to a friend about that too - you'd think the name "Wicked" would be enough, so they could go and cast two unknowns in the leads and let them shine in a show that will surely let them.

"I'd be horrified if they brought over Idina or someone instead of trusting a local actress"
well alot of shows transfer or have orig. cast members jump the pond. who cares as long as the entire production is done well.

Posted: 4/21/06 at 5:29amThere is a story in today's Daily Mail in the Showbiz column that she is coming over for a limited before being replaced by a British actress. Baz Bamigboye is often correct about these things especially so close to the actual announcements. While I wont believe it until I see it in an official announcement I tend to think this one is accurate. As for there not being a London cast recording... well the producers did say at the Press Launce that they would like to do one. I dont see why they dont record it when the British Elphaba takes over or straight away as they willbe casting the hypothetical replacement with the rest.

THANK GOODNESS it was finally announced... I was getting tired of keeping my mouth shut! Haha there's a lot more changes in the works too for the other companies.
This is definitely a good thing. It will be amazing publicity for the show, increase promotions and advanced ticket sales. And let's think about our friends in London and how much of a TREAT this is going to be for them! Tied up in a pretty bow all ready for a fantastic over-seas debut! I couldn't be happier for them.

The word from auditions was that Elphaba and the Wizard would remain "American" with the rest of the cast being "British".
It certainly will help with Elphaba being different and hint at the links with the Wizard.
Also here is the article in the Daily Mail with comments from Idina
