re: IS there goingto be a release for MAry Poppins Original Broadway Cast?

What I don't understand is this. For all of Camron's shows he has done the only one to have an OLC and OBC album is Les Miserables. the rest such as Siagon, Cats and phantom only have an OLC. Why would he do an OLC and OBC for Les Miz and not for the rest.

Did he not do an OLC for cats and phantom cus they are partly produced by really useful group?

Also, if that's the case then why didn't he do one for the OBC of Siagon. I don't understand how people say that he is not doing an OBC for poppins cus Lee is doing Burt and he was in london. That logic doesn't make sense with Poppins or Siagon. Les Miz had Colm Wilkinson and Francis Ruffel sp? from the London OLC come to Broadway and yet they still made an OBC

The thinking with Phantom and Miss Saigon was that, since both of the principal performers were the same, there was no need to re-record the show.

It was probably sound thinking, since the majority of audience members who bought the CD's didn't care that Judy Kaye's Carlotta or Liz Callaway's superior Ellen were not recorded.

There is actually a Broadway Cast Recording of "Cats" as well as an Australian one. There was an OBC of the Broadway "Phantom"

Yeah, Im not sure what you were talking about in regards to only one Phantom CD.

As to the Poppins OBC, the lastest word from the cast is that the possibility of recording it is still being discussed and has not been ruled out. However, if they do choose to record a broadway cast CD it will not be until later in the run. (Perhaps after Gavin Lee leaves?)

I love this cast, and really want them to record a show using the broadway cast, but if you look at how well the OLC is selling at the theatre and Disney shops there is really no motivation for the producers to put money behind another CD. Do you think Mrs. Tourist and her 3 young kids care who is on the CD? No.

"There was an OBC of the Broadway "Phantom" "

Was there? Wasnt it the re-release of the OLC recording? There was certainly the canadian cast recording, and a the original German cast recording but I wasnt sure about a real OBC recording.

I dont believe there was an OBC. They sell the "Original Cast Recording" a.k.a. the re-released OLC. But there were defiantly more then just one CD of Phantom made, including those you listed and not to mention the movie soundtrack.

Cats did have an OBC.

There have been many, many Phantom recordings from around the world, including a good number in English--the OLCR, Canadian cast, and a few British studio recordings. However, a Broadway recording was not one of them. For a short time after the initial Broadway opening they did reissue the OLCR with a small American flag on it, but it was always called the Original London Cast Recording.

Since we're talking about the lack of Mackintosh recordings and the lure of moolah, I always this tidbit shed a lot of light on the thinking behind most cast recordings--the question often comes up about why Phantom, in its two decades of existence, has done nothing like the Complete Symphonic Cast Recording of Les Miz and Miss Saigon. After all, Phantom has been more successful than the latter and right on par with the former. The reason, apparently, is Michael Crawford, who smartly (for him) made it a condition of his original contract that there would be no full cast recordings in English other than the OLCR. That's why we only have highlights from Canada and London studio casts, and the closest thing we have to a new full recording is (sadly) the soundtrack for the film.
