Speaking of dubbing, I hear that it's still an accepted practice in European films (not to generalize all films from Europe since their films are as diverse as the countries they are being produced in...and the countries themselves are incredibly diverse). If true, I wonder why there isn't the same stigma there as there is here (post-1960s).

Because Europeans watch a lot of American movies, and they're usually dubbed into whatever language the country in question speaks.

That's an interesting theory. So...because they are so used to watching foreign films dubbed in their language, that made it more acceptable for their stars to have their singing parts dubbed by better singers.

Pasek & Paul will be teaming up with Alan Menken on new songs for the film...

Which likely means we shouldn't expect to hear any of the additional songs from the Broadway show in it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...ALADDIN has got to be the only Disney product to have so many composers/lyricists involved with it, between the animation and the musical and now this!

Also, I love the hashtag that's sprung up: Will Smith is #NotMyGenie.

That casting press was complete bs!  The only real problem they had was trying to find mainstream American actors for these parts.   Will Smith is practically perfect.  As someone mentioned auto-tune will probably rule the day here.  I'm quite surprised they are adding new songs, has there been any mention of Rice/John for Lion King?  Glad they didn't throw Miranda at this one....such weird choices all around.
