Just returned from the Sunday night performance of In the Heights. It was absolutely fantastic. From the looks of the curtain call, it was Janet Dacal's (Carla) last, and the cast was clearly emotional and on the top of their game. Michael Balderrama was on for Usnavi and was FANTASTIC. Very talented. Lin-Manuel Miranda was in the audience as well, and I saw him signing autographs as he made his way backstage to the cast. While I'm sure this show was great because of Lin's presence and Janet's last, the show was in wonderful shape. I still marvel at the beauty of this show every time I see it.
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?
