Again, we're purely bickering over semantics. The intent was clear from the post and there was no need to come down on Loge for it.

Hahaha. I didn't mean to attack, I just felt like Loge was getting the shaft. I hope you did not take it personally.

No, I didn't at all! I hope you didn't either.
I just have other things I have to do right now.

The origins of the English language have nothing to do with this. If the Broadway and Complete recordings are not in the English language, will you please tell me what language they are in? I only speak English, and I understand every word of all four recordings.
To the person who explained how actors get paid (whether live or studio), I had no idea. Thank you.
On a side note - I bought the OBC of Wicked TWICE! The first copy I lent to a friend (hadn't put it on my iPod at that time) and she lost it, so I bought it again through iTunes.

re: Idea for iTunes and cast recordings + Wicked#58
Posted: 2/7/07 at 12:12pmI think that could be a good idea if it was a concert and it wasn't coming back. But if it was just a show in general? No way. People wouldn't go see the show because they know what happens. Also, generally, the story is in the insert of the CD. That is, if the people aren't too lazy to look at it.

"People wouldn't go see the show because they know what happens."
I disagree. I knew what happened in most of the shows I saw before I even saw them, including the world premieres of Lestat (SF) and Hairspray (Seattle). EVITA was a movie for goodness sake and now it's on stage again. There were no secrets revealed in seeing Les Miz, Miss Saigon, or POTO after only hearing the recordings. Going to the theater is an experience that cannot be replicated in the home or cinema.

This is true in most cases. Wicked did not have a synopsis. I had to search online (which was very easy of course) to find a synopsis. As soon as I heard Elfie screaming "Feyero" in "No Good Deed" I had to find out what happens. That song is awesome, and I was like "Who is Feyero and what happened to him?"
I just think in reality a huge majority of people would still go to a show if they heard the whole score and even more would still go knowing the story.

Posted: 2/7/07 at 12:46pmCouldn't agree more with you Loge. And you and I are representative of a great number of people. There's no doubt that a live recording would make a profit.

If you'll read closely, I said it would make a profit, not a huge one.
And if you read any of my previous posts, you would know that it is very possible to make a profit off an online only recording that doesn;t need a studio, but only minimal editing and mastering.
If only the unions and producers could agree like the Met has. There'll still making a profit, otherwise they wouldn't have agreed.
Its a perfectly sound business model, just not as immediately profitable as the one they are using now.

Posted: 2/7/07 at 2:39pmBut the fact of the matter is that the unions and producers don't agree. That's a pretty big "if".

It's only as big of an "if" as you make it.
One of the tactics of these companies (and unions) is to propagate the idea that these kinds of agreements are impossible, and the Met and their union have come to an amicable agreement that allows this kind of free production of content digitally.
Yes I know they are different, but no so different that a similar agreement can't be reach.
It's not a "can't" situation, it's a "won't" situation.

So you speak on behalf of ALL the people in the US? Just because you and Fenchurch will still go and see it, there are easily a hundred people who won't.

Needy, you are priceless...you slam me for speaking "on behalf of all the people in the US" and then you do exactly the same thing! If I have no basis for saying most people would see a show even if they knew the story, then you have no basis for saying a hundred people won't.
THINK about it! Most people are fimiliar with the stories before they see the show on stage, UNLESS they are catching something very early in its run. Something that hasn't produced a recording, something that isn't all the buzz. People read reviews (which provides them with a synopsis), people talk to others who have seen it - people find out the story.
In fact, I don't think there is one show I have seen where I did not know (at least all the major points) of the story beforehand.
The recordings of Jekyll & Hyde, POTO, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Mamma Mia certainly contained the main body of the plot. I read the Lestat books. I saw the Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, and the Lion King movies.

I could list 100 people that I know, would that make you feel better?
re: Idea for iTunes and cast recordings + Wicked#70

1. You are correct. Whoever said that "only two are English" was simply splitting hairs.
Actually when someone refers to an English recording they are usually talking about a West-End recording.
No, they're not. When someone is talking about a West End recording, they call it a London recording. Stop trying to put Loge down to make yourself look smart; God knows everyone on this board has seen more than enough evidence to the contrary.

Not really. But I don't care enough to argue with you, just because you aren't worth my time.
Kringas- I know at least 100 people who have chosen not to see a movie or play because it was spoiled for them.
