Not sure that she would do regional theatre but I feel Donna Murphy would make for a wonderful Blanche.

Lesley Ann Warren sounds great...How about Jessica Lange?

Here's a novel idea, why not cast someone who can act and play the role.

I'd suggest trying to find someone who's somewhat believable as the age the character is supposed to be, which I believe is 29. Not one name that's been mentioned would even come close. I'm not saying the actress has to be 29. Jessica Tandy was 38 when the original production opened. Tandy was succeeded by Uta Hagen, who was probably 30 at the time.

Jessica Lange played Blanche on Broadway 16 years ago and some people thought she was too old then.

Names that come to mind: Jennifer Ehle, Anne Heche, Laura Linney, all too old but a bit closer. Truth is it's hard to come up with an actress who looks the right age and has an established name and the chops for the role. But at least they're all under 45 (if barely in Linney's case).
