re: Idina and Clay

okay.. that is just an offense post.

a.)Clay is a screeming queen. so is angel.
b.)saying a person should not play a role due to their orientation is offensive.
c.)Straight men HAVE played Angel...
d.)What does religion have to do with acting?!?
e.)Please you remove your head from your &&&.

re: Idina and Clay

I didn't know that(obviously). I asked a friend who said he was gay. Anyone who can play Angel is great. Gay or straight, dancing in heels like that can't be easy. Hell, I can't do it and I'm a female gymnast/dancer. Anyone, how did this get from Clay and Idina to Angel being gay?

re: Idina and Clay

So, since I am straight I can never play a gay person?

Okay, well I guess I won't be auditioning for 'Southern Baptist Sissies'...

That logic is so flawed. Everyone in the theatre beleived that Nathan Lane was in love with Faith Prince. It is called acting. Acting doesn't have a sexual preference.

We can stick all the singers I don't like in a show together. That way I'll know exactly what not to listen to. Great idea!

re: Idina and Clay

Ever see Roger Bart play Carmen Ghia in The Prodcuers? That role is ten tmes more "flamboyant" than Angel and Bart is straight. To say nothing of Cliff Gorman who played Emory the cha-cha queen in the original stage and film versions of Boys in the Band -- Gorman was also straight. Jefferson Mays plays dozens of gay, straight and transgendered characters (of both genders) in I Am My Own Wife and he's straight. I could name dozens of others......

"Southern Baptist Sissies"<---- that has got to be one of the funniest things I have ever read, Priest (me being a southern baptist and all, which I hope to change very soon by the way)

re: Idina and Clay

I'm saying someone like Clay who is very religious wouldn't be able to act it. I do think that to really give a blowout performance as Angel, it would be difficult for a straight person. It's a role that evokes deep emotion and it needs that little extra oomph. That would be really hard for a heterosexual, especially Clay, to give.

I don't know about Clay's acting abilities, but it's silly to say only a gay man can play this role. Or any role. And yes Wilson Jermaine Heredia is straight. he's the original Angel.

They are doing it this summer at Uptown Players here in Dallas. The artistic director asked me to audition.

I'm really excited. UP is an EXCELLENT theatre company here in Dallas.
