I know this has been posted but I just dont know where to look with ALL of these posts.

What are Idina's out dates?

Looks like I might be making it into the city more than I thought and I am looking into tickets!
Thanks!

Most people here will tell you not to worry...Eden is just as good, if not better.

I am sure she is... and I am sure I would like it.

I just DESPARATELY want to see Idina. Just to say I did. I rarely have seen an original cast member and I really like her. I have this whole fierce loyalty thing and I want to see the person who's voice I know from the recording. Plus, she absolutely tore it up at the Tonys!!

Its kind of how I adore Susan Egan but still wish I could have caught a performance with Sutton.

I believe Idina came back today and she leaves the show sometime in January (i think)

Idina's supposed to be back in the show as of tomorrow. And both she and Joel Grey extended their contracts through 1/1/05. So you have quite a bit of an opportunity left to see Idina do her thing.

I've heard audios of Eden and the one I heard she seemed to go a bit flat in the higher notes. Idina's performance is the Sutton Foster/Millie performance to see these days. Just as Sutton was the girl to see in that show, Idina is in Wicked. I'm sure Eden is "great," but Idina is untouchable as Elphaba.

i have to disagree with that, against my own judgement. i am a HUMONGOUS idina menzel fan, but eden's performance in 'wicked' is just as good, if not better than idina's. i have an audio clip of eden doing 'defying gravity' that just gives me chills whenever i listen to that, and although idina impressed me immensely, it's been eden's performance that has done so even more. but then again, both actresses are bringing great talent to the role, so it's hard to pick just one.

I'm going with PJ. I really love what I heard heard Eden sing, but I think Idina possesses qualities that are beyond the norm.

Allow me to refer to a hot topic last season. The argument was that Bernadette Peters' standby for "Gypsy," Maureen Moore, was better than her. Some who saw Moore's performance said it was heads and shoulders above Bernadette's, or atleast vocally. Some may say that Eden's performance is better than Idina's. I cannot say for sure, as I have not seen Eden's. I've only heard audios, which are not a good representation of one's performance. However, and this is going to open myself up to a bit of ridicule, but there's a reason why Idina's the lead and Eden is the back up. Idina has it. That star quality. And you either got it. Or ya ain't. And boys...she's got it.*

Sorry. I had to throw in another "Gypsy" reference.

it's a tough comparison. Idina is a pretty good singer who is blessed with a fantastically strong instrument that still sounds great when used improperly. i forget who said that her vocal technique "relies on having a larynx of steel" but that's so spot on. her technique and stage presence are come and go, but when she's ON she can sing and perform the hell out of all of the roles she's had. Bernadette, while a great singer frequently, isn't so much a voice as she is an abstract concept, an otherworldly entity. when you see Bernadette live, you may not get a healthy voice but you know you'll get something mindblowing. that is star quality. Idina is a great performer of songs, Bernadette is a great performer of shows.

I feel like I am alone in thinking that Idina is indeed a great performer of shows. I feel like she is noticed only for her singing abilities, when she has a lot more than that.

When I read the 1/1/05 thing I almost had a heart attack, I've got a front row seat for the 2nd!

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!

Not to take anything away from Eden, but here is something to keep in mind: Eden doesn't have to sing the role 8 times a week month after month, so she doesn't have to save her voice as much. Eden can take some vocal "liberties" that Idina can't. I remember seeing Kristen Lee Kelly in RENT when she was an understudy and then again once she took over the role full time -- and she was much more vocally *colorful* as the understudy. But it's totally understandable.

Aside from all that, I hear Eden is amazing in the role and I'm so glad she is winning over the audiences. I can't *WAIT* to see her in Brooklyn......
