It does look interesting. Who exactly does Idina play in the film? We barely see her in the trailer at all.

I found this on IMDb about Idina's character:

She must be Vera Rivken, a woman with a tragic personal story (sorry,...i don't want to spoil it any more)who initiates Arturo to lovemaking. It's not a big part but it is crucial to the development of the story.

I don't recall her hiatus from Wicked being that long, like 8 days or something, I'm not surprised the role isn't massive.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

i was excited to see that Justin Kirk is in it. Yeah, i haven't read the book or anything. I saw that character description on IMDB too. It seemed as if her character was somehow wronged by Colin Farrell. who knows? either way, it looks as if the cinematographyshould be quite a treat.

Speaking of Angels in America, I saw Ben Shenkman last night, and wanted to go worship him. But I decided to do so from afar.

So anyway, Idina.

She was gone from WICKED for 2 and half weeks I believe in the end of June, beginning of July 2004.

When is this coming out?
And I can't watch the trailer with my slow internet, so since this is in the 30's i read, does she wear a funky outfit? sorry, stupid questions...

Aw, great trailer! Can't wait to see it. Idina was gone from Wicked the first time I saw it, in July 2004, only about a week or two before Kristin's last. I saw Eden. Anyway, glad the movie (and Colin Ferrell) look really good :)

Edit: Yeah, I'm with bwayondabrain's question, when does it come out? Updated On: 2/7/06 at 06:19 PM

Ebert & Dweebert gave it "thumbs down." In their review last week, they didn't even mention Idina. Neither did Entertainment Weekly, which thought slightly better of it than the thumbs police.

...It must not be that big of a part.

Idina's role is pretty small. She's in a few scenes with Colin Farrell, but her presence is pivotal to his development as both a man and a writer.

The reviews for the film have been pretty mixed to negative (pretty to look at, but not much else...and I have to agree). Even though Ebert and Roeper may not have mentioned her, many reviews have and all have been overwhelmingly positive. A few examples:

"Idina Menzel ("Rent") is heartbreaking as the wounded soul who sweeps into Arturo's room like a Santa Ana, all devouring gaze."
The Hollywood Reporter

Menzel practically trembles with vulnerability; it makes you want to see her in films more often.
AP

Vera (a vivid Idina Menzel)
Rolling Stone

Menzel, best known for such theatrical credits as "Wicked" and "Rent," is so explosive in her relatively brief time on-screen that she threatens to overshadow the two stars.
Newsday

Idina Menzel (of Rent fame) pockets nearly every scene she's in as an eccentric woman obsessed with Farrell's character, delivering a performance that deftly spins its initial quirky, comic appeal on a dime into a more moving note of tragedy and sympathy.
Rocky Mountain News

Like the earthquake, Menzel's spirited performance briefly enlivens the movie. She and Farrell have more chemistry in their brief encounter than he and Hayek ever show.

It's cute how so many Idina fans are calling this Idina's movie. She has a very small part. See it for Justin Kirk, not Idina! re: Idina in Ask The Dust (TRAILER) Long before Prior Walter, he was the adorable Bobby Brahms in Love! Valour! Compassion!

Oh, I meant to mention, that Justin Kirk's part is way smaller than Idina's even is. He really only has one brief scene that allows him to demonstrate any character development.
I don't think it's the kind of movie you would "see for him."
