Idina's Moment...

First of all let me just say what a pleasure it was seeing the show again, especially the first performance after the Tony's. Idina received a wonderful welcome from the audience when she came on the stage for her first scene and overall the show had so much energy and everyone was just having a lot of fun with it.

An especially adorable moment however, came during "Popular." Right when Kristen places the mirror in front of Idina to say her line "Why Miss Elphaba, you're beautiful..." she instead first said "Look, it's like a Tony!" She began spinning the mirror and hitting it with her hand to spin it like the Tony emblem. The entire audience burst into applause and laughter as did Idina. You could really sense the comradery between them as Idina threw her arms around Kristen's waist hugging her and laughing. It was a good minute or so before everything died down and Kristen stopped being silly and they composed themselves to continue the scene. Very hard for Idina especially since she was supposed to be upset and run off yet she couldn't seem to stop giggling.

It was truly a rare and adorable moment and so much fun to be there for! Just thought I would share. :)

What a wonderful story. I really wish they both could've won. Although, I'm happy for Idina. Btw, she always gets applause as soon as she walks on stage, she did when I saw it in May. I can't remember if she did when I saw it in Nov.

Thats awesome. Thanks for sharing this! Yes, Idina always gets applauds, but I am sure it was bigger than ever last night.

I saw it for the first time last night - and what a night to go see it!!! it was wonderful and I thought the audience wasn't going to let Idina start her first number...she had so much entrance applause! The whole show really blew me away, I thought it was fabulous and it was really cool to know that I was watching a recent Tony award winner along with a great great cast. Both Kristen and Idina were really wonderful- it was one of the best theatre experiences i've had in a really long time.

I was in row DD last night and i couldnt hear the first half of "dear old shiz" because of all the applause. It was great.

I wonder how Kristin really feels. I'm sure she knew that Idina would win before her, but it still must suck. Hopefully, she's taking it as well as her public face is showing.

Did you actually say that, I don't know about other people in here, but this is my hobby (Broadway). I'm a classical music teacher, and I have a successful career, despite the fact that's it's very much in its infancy, so don't go telling me that I need a hobby. (Btw, how did I get the status of standby on this site?)
