Idina posted the answers to some questions on her site. I'm glad she finally got the post off that said she was filming a movie 3 weeks after she got back--it confused some people I know as to whether she was in the show or not.

A lot of singers steam their voices before a performance because it is very therapeutic to vocal chords, and soothes them. Vocal chords become very tense when used throughout the day, and the steam, like warm tea, relaxes them. I love steaming especially because where I live, the air conditioner is always turned up crazy amounts and that kind of "processed" air is very harsh to my voice...so sitting in the bathroom for a half hour with the hot shower running really helps my voice shape up.
And I'm glad I'm not the only one whose voice gets tired quickly...it seems everyone I know can sleep for a couple of hours, wake up, and just sing perfectly. I need like, two hours and lots of water before I can TALK, usually, lol, and if I have been awake for more than eight hours, it is very strained as well.

Posted: 8/22/04 at 4:35pmThe Steam thing definately makes a lot of sense to me... I've never understood hot tea due to the caffeine and the fact that the heat is relaxing the esophogus and not the larynx... but inhaling hot water does make a lot of sense... I must try that sometime.
