Idina is a beautiful girl with a beautiful mouth.
Did anyone else notice that when she sang the last big note you could see all the way into the back of her mouth and she didn't have ANY cavities!!! No silver fillings either. Nice.

I thought it was an awesome performance, and yes Idina was amazing. Having seen the show in October I do have to say that what we saw on Letterman was quite different than how it is in the actual show. I really misses Kristin's part tonight, both vocally and physically. They sing the beginning together and them Kristin makes a choice and so does Idina and it is just spectacular in the show. But I say congrats to making it the best they could on Letterman! What was the deal with him ALREADY having the cast recording??? Can it be? They just recorded it like 7 days ago. I wonder if they just put the cover in the cd case or something?!?
Her teeth are nice, but she's also gorgeous--a real woman, not a cartoon. She's captured the sexual side of Elphaba that Maguire wrote about. She's strong and vulnerable and ... and --
It's 1:29, what the hell am I doing?
Anybody who set their VCRs will enjoy it.
"just because the songs 'stuck in your head' doesn't mean they are 'good.' It's usually the worst garbage that get's 'stuck' like all the Britney Spears / Madonna / Cher crap."
Oh? After I first saw Hugh Jackman in the Oklahoma tape, I had various songs from that show stuck in my head for a couple of weeks. I would hardly call Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic as "garbage."
One person's "crap" is another person's treasured favorite. It's all a matter of opinion.

I thought Idina's performance of the best of the two good songs in Wicked was very good on the Letterman show. I hope this role leads somebody to develop a quality musical vehicle for her.
I have to say how sick I am of Les Mizzy (as opposed to Ms. Lezzie) crowd scenes in shows, ("kill the witch!"): VERY.
Also, what kind of hack writer do you have to be to actually come up with the lyric, "Something has changed within me. Something is not the same?"
Oh, and Horsey? "Did anyone else notice that when she sang the last big note you could see all the way into the back of her mouth and she didn't have ANY cavities!!!" Second to last molar on the right. Silver filling. I'm sorry to break that to you.
LOL I once had a Cher song stuck in my head for 4 months. I love the song, but it drove me nuts after a while. When I saw Wicked, and for a few days after, I had "Popular" stuck in my head. I love the show, Idina was great on Letterman, and I cannot wait until the CD comes out. Did Dave really have a copy, or was it just an empty cd case he displayed last night? Either way, it seemed like false advertising to those who wouldn't know that the cd has not been released yet. If I didn't know, and I saw them perform last night, I would go out looking for it.

No more than when somebody comes on and promotes a movie three weeks before it's in theaters. (Dave called it a soundtrack by the way, which is a falsity.)
Yes, but the ator or host usually says when the movie will be in theaters. Or if someone is there to promote a book or CD, they are supposed to say, "It's in stores now." or "It will be in stores...". Dave implied that the cd has already been released to the public for sale. Perhaps he didn't know it hasn't been; but that's his producer's fault.
Horsey..
i cant believe you used the name Cher with crap? I thought you were leaving this board...::yawn::
Am I the only one who didn't like the performance.I even taped it and re-watched it. I wasn't too crazy about the song either. The special effects were good though.

I taped her performance and watched it this morning. Man I cannot wait to see this show. And like many of ya'll have said already...not only can Idina sing but man is she hot! While I was watching it this morning I'm thinking...what's wrong with me...she's green?!?! Anyway...the music sounds great. Idina's voice is incredible as is Kristin's. This has got to be the hottest duo on Broadway! Taye is a lucky man!!!

No, Thetruth, you're not the only one. Not only did I not care for the performance, I thought the number was a joke. I keep looking around for Bulldog to chime in here.

Not the only one, I was underwhelmed and bored as well. Fortunately my boys, "The Strokes," made up for the night with another performance on Conan.
I thought it was better than the performance on the Today Show last week. Remember, Broadway shows never come off that great on television. They don't have time to build character or story development. Also, you don't have the atmosphere that the theater's create...you're sitting in your living room for crying out loud. The Tony Awards are a slightly different story because it's "All Broadway." There is nothing but Broadway talk and Broadway people; there is a great build up to the performances. Talk shows are distracting. Unless they do an entire episode dedicated to a particular Broadway show, the segment can be overshadowed by other guests.
She's fine but the song does leave a great deal to be desired. The lyrics are asinine.
The performance didn't do much for me either and I'm surprised to see this many people who thought it rocked (Nothing against Idina or the show, both of which I enjoyed). I thought that the performance didn't do much in terms of promoting the show for the general public. In the context of the rest of the show it's pretty good, but as a stand alone song - eh.
When I took an elective this summer on Lyric Writing, they always told me to make my lyrics personal. Don't be general. And ironically, don't use any tense of the word "fly". That's really general.
And Stephen Schwartz gets away with it?
Alot of you are complaining about the lyrics, but they're are somewhat better than the Pre-Bway version. Lyrics cut from there just absolutley made no sense!
"There are shown, they make their bed not of rose but of thorns, on their head, and when they're dead NO ONE MOURNS THE WICKED!"
See what I mean?
I still think the line "Don't be offended by my frank analysis/Think of it as personality dialysis" in Popular is possibly the worst lyric ever written in the history of musical theater. Anyone concur?

I loved the performance. Idina is amazing. I feel that the ensemble parts in this song were worthless and awful! Maybe it works better in the show. Can somebody tell us who have not seen the show how it differs from what really happens in the theatre?

I don't think it's half as bad as...
"One Short Day in the Emerald City...One Short day you'll have a lifetime of fun..." - gag me!
or
"I'm limited...my future is I'm limited"- that sentence doesn't even make sense
"and I've just had a vision almost like a prophesy...it sounds crazy, and true the vision's hazy"- his rhymes make me laugh
"Unlimited, my future is unlimited..."
Might want to get the lyrics right 'before' you bash them.

bestofbroadway, I am pretty sure it's:
"unlimited...my future is unlimited"
That makes much more sense. It's the same lyric that's in "The Wizard and I." With all of her hopes and dreams and her powers, she knows her future has "unlimited" potential.
It's not as stupid as it may sound...remember the character is a young, ambitious woman who is ready to show Oz that she is more than "the girl with green skin." I don't think these lyics (or most of them for that matter) are stupid or lame. But that's just my opinion.

Guys- don't get me wrong. I don't hate the show or the music. I can't wait to see it. I just think some of Schwartz's lyrics need work. I'm allowed to like something and still find the flaws in it. Face it people there are very few shows that are "perfect" and this I'm sure is great, but far from "perfect."
