Will they tell me if there are any cast members out for any of the performances of that day?

*tomorrow*

...and no, the understudy board generally goes up an hour before curtain, so you won't know if anyone is out until 1pm. you're seeing the matinee, right?

I understand your enthusiasm. But you've posted several threads already. And the truth, as it's been said before is that you won't know until you get to the theater. Period. Unless there's an announced leave of absence, or vacation, there's no way of guaranteeing one way or another.

You could post 100 times, on both boards and phrase your question a different way every time but my suggestion is to just RELAX.. go and enjoy the show. You'll make yourself crazy about this and even worse - if you do see an understudy, you will have built yourself up SO much, you'll already be in a bad mood.

Plus - there are MANY MANY MANY times I've seen a show with an understudy and have loved them even more than the original. Just because someone isn't the "star" doesn't mean they are inferior in anyway.

I completely am sorry. Ever see Monk? I have OCD and if something dosent happen the way I thought it intended to, I go crazy.I also seek out re-assurance. I am sorry it just really bothers me. Ill refrain from making any more topics. Sorry again

It's "OK" - I just don't want you to psyche yourself out of seeing great performances. Just go and enjoy the show.

Besides Bundy what will you do if someone is out? You'll still see the show, right? So why let that bother you? Just relax and enjoy! I am SURE you will have an excellent time tommarrow!!

Craig is so right, Bundy. I love seeing your kind of enthusiasm for a show. I'm just afraid that you're going to build it up so much in your mind that no matter how good it is - you're still going to be a little disappointed. Just try to relax. Enjoy the excitement and the fact that you're seeing a wonderful show. Enjoy the whole experience and not just the individual members of the cast.

(Also like he said - some of the best performances I've seen on the stage were put in by understudies. Usually they know that the opportunity to go on may be their one and only chance to be seen and so they'll give the audience an outstanding performance.)

Have a wonderful time!

When I ordered tickets by phone for Chicago, I was assured that Bebe Neuwirth would play Velma and she did. When I ordered for Long Day's Journey into Night, I was assured that Vanessa Redgrave would play and she did, even though she had a cold.

You could maybe try calling Ticketmaster. They may have the answer.

No matter what, you'll have a great time...besides, most of the understudies are well known Broadway ensemble veterans, and they are all have had great performances in the past...so it should be fine!

I'm sure they will have an answer. Just don't count on it being correct.

I found one thread about understudy's, any other people encounter them throughout the Mary Poppins run?

Yeah I definitely agree. If you go in with the idea that understudies are somewhat less talented or inferior, you will not enjoy the performance at all because they are not. When I saw Phantom in London recently, the woman who played Christine was out, so was the alternate, and the first understudy. I ended up seeing someone from the ensemble play the rols that wasn't even listed as an understudy for the role, and she was FANTASTIC. Then Les Mis, Jean ValJean was also the lowest understudy. I personally love seeing understudies because since they don't play the role to often, they get excited and give a more powerful performance, if that makes sense.

FWIW, I don't believe either Ashley Brown or Gavin Lee has missed a show yet. So, I'd say your odds are pretty good, if those are the two you want to catch.
