Happen to be watching Mel Brook's History of the World Part I and thought that with the success of Spamalot, this Mel Brook's property could work in a very similar style..

First of all, a lot of people would say Spamalot DOESN'T work (though I'm not one of them).
But, yeah, I was just thinking that.
The Inquisition - What a show!
Craig i am watching it too!.....
I'd rather see Blazing Saddles the musical first
Watching this after so many years - it almost feels like a pythonesque movie too...
Yes! Craig!
We're Jews

I love History of the World! If it were done well than I would love to see it as a musical. Hee, gay marriage :)
The structure is easy enough to translate too - with the same actors playing various roles.
You look like the piss boy!

It's good to be da King!
EDIT: DAMN, I was beat to it. And, yes, actually, I'd like to see Blazing Saddles first.
I think Blazing Saddles would be a riskier translation and "harder" to re-devise than HotW P1 though...
Hmmm....
Blazing Sadles...
And Young Frankenstein, less we forget.

At the risk of being branded a Spamalot apologist, may I point out that Spamalot is in no way shape or form a "Series of sketches with music." The plot may be convoluted, but there is a strong through line from start to finish.
Python's own "Meaning of Life" which already has some dazzling musical numbers ("Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" and "Every Sperm is Sacred") is funnier than Brooks' efforts anyway.

I won't argue that Meaning of Life is funnier than History of the World (though it's not), but "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" is from Life of Brian, not Meaning of Life.

Does anyone recall that Mel Brooks had a Top 40 hit single with a rap song called "It's Good to Be The King"?

This kind of thinking is exactly what is WRONG with Broadway today. One show (PRODUCERS, SPAMALOT, MAMMA MIA) scores big at the box office and everyone rushes to copy the formula instead of coming up with something new. Broadway needs original source materials: novels, historical events, or better yet come up with something new and different or original.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
