How about the Fosse-Verdon Theatre? from RC in Austin, Texas

Bustopher, I don't think that anyone is saying "Haha, let's kick those Jesus-lovers to the curb!" or advocating throwing them out. There are other circumstances where the building could become available again (ie, if they decided to move elsewhere, thus no longer needing the space). Plus, this is all just hypothetical. Thinking up a dream cast for a show doesn't mean that you want the current cast to be fired, or thinking you'd like to see X show in Y theatre doesn't mean you want show Z, the current tenant, to be evicted.
And if renaming was a possibility, I'd rather have a theatre renamed after a person than a company.

Out of all the ones listed that has the most ring to it for sure. I might have to change around Webber-LuPone so as not to seat their two names next to each other... It'll take some tinkering, but in no time I'll submit it to the heads of the major organizations, who in turn will name it after themselves once again. Drat!

What if God dies? Will they give it up then?
I want that theater to be a theater again so badly I'd be willing for it to be corporate named.
If Verizon wants to get me that theater - let it be so. It's in such a great location and it is just BEAUTIFUL in there and a great house....
Maybe that makes me too mercinary but honestly, I wouldn't care as long as it became a working theater again.

Ethel Merman never played there, but if ANYONE deserves to have a Broadway theatre named after her, it's our Ethel. For over 50 years, her name conjured up Broadway and everything it represents. Personally, I'd like to think the Imperial, the Majestic or the Broadway carried her name -- this was her venue, these were the theaters in which she shone repeatedly. That way, no individual would be hurt and she would get the recognition she so fully deserves.

I've always thought that both David Merrick and Hal Prince ought to hvae theatres named after them.
