re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Into the Woods is a good choice and will work very well in that space, I like how they have themed the season with The Crucible and Macbeth.

I wonder what other shows could work at the Open Air Theatre, Hair would as evident with The Delacorte Theatre in Central Park or perhaps classics like Me and My Girl or Brigadoon.

I'll start to work on my costume which will (inevitably) consist of leaves and not much else!

Haha.

Why must I go back home in December? This will be an absolute treat, and sadly there's no way I'll be able to see it re: If You Go Down To The Woods

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Isn't this the third or fourth Into the Woods that we've had in London in three years?

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Who cares if it is, i for one can't wait. After my first visit to the open air to see Hello Dolly this year i'm hungry for more and Into The Woods is a perfect show for that space.

I thought Scripps would be swinging from the chandeliers with this news.

Hoping to go over to Regents Park tomorrow evening to see Hello Dolly for the first time, albeit I have to get a ticket first.

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Into The Woods isn't one of my favourite Sondshows. I saw a good production of it at the Derby Playhouse three or four years ago and that will suffice for a while.

And yes, like Exey says, there was a fringe production earlier this year, there's one on at the Landor now and this is scheduled for next year. So Into The Woods seems to be out of the woods.

I also saw it at the Derby Playhouse and thought it was a very strong production indeed. It had the sublime Annalene Beechey in it. Much better then the one at the Royal Opera House(Even though that one as well had some very strong performances)Though I guess I will end up seeing this one as well....

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

I'm sure the ROH production had strong performances...

Unfortunately, we only saw the first ten or fifteen minutes as the performance was cancelled after a cloud burst flooded the back stage area.

So we'd travelled to London, paid for a hotel ...and got a(n expensive) pizza!

Get Julia back on stage for this, her final stage appearance. She was the bestest witch ever!!!!

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Oh dear. Though having said that, when I went the first 10 minutes of the show was sung unaccompanied. Apparently the microphones that were meant to pick up the band had a temporary rest. Yet the whole cast did deal with it very well. Well, everyone but Gary Waldhorn. The less said there the better. re: If You Go Down To The Woods

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Didn't actually see the ROH production but the poster design was lovely, mysterious and enigmatic.

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

I caught ROH production when it toured to The Lowry. Absolutely loved the cast and production even the smaller roles had some fine people - I'm thinking of the really tall chap who was cover Phantom until recently as Rapunzel's Prince and Lara Pulver as a Stepsister?

Derby was also quite good. Kim Criswell could do no wrong as the Witch. However I did not buy Glenn Carter one bit. Not as bad as his Charlie Kringas though!

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Not knowing anything about 'into the woods', but having the privileged of going to the Regent Park Open Air Theatre yesterday and with the real trees on the back of the stage and leafs falling in last night's Autumnal weather, the show could have the potential to be quite stunning, if the said scenery is required?

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Nic Greenshields was the Prince in question.
I do agree that all the performers were mostly very strong, yet I just didn't feel the production as a whole.

God. I forgot Glenn Carter was in the Derby one. That was painful. Though to be honest, I always find Glen Carter unwatchable. And it was nice to see Annette Mclaughlin do something other then high kick in a litle black dress.

re: If You Go Down To The Woods

Interesting comments about Glenn Carter. I rated him highly as Bobby at the Derby Playhouse: more so than Adrian Lester but not as much as John Barrowman.

I don't think he did quite as well as the Baker or Charlie Kringas but both performances were outside-the-Sondheim-box and I enjoyed them precisely for that reason.

Mr Kringas: are you any relation to Charlie?
