LaBute was regarded as the best up-and-coming playwright when Shape of Things and bash premiered.
Now that all of his plays follow the same formula - and a very tiresome one at that - nobody cares about him anymore.

i guess Dog Sees God comes down to a matter of a taste, i for one was thrilled by the show, it was clever, funny and daring and had a great heart which ran constantly under the jokes and nods and winks to peanuts. The revised version that bert has done is even better.
To call something "pathetic" because it;s not your taste is ridiculous though, it amazes me as well because if you look back on here to the time when the show opened, members on this board LOVED it.
And the show whilst in my opinion was not like a sketch show at all, it was a comedy, and the laughs came thick and fast.

had anyone mentioned OUR TOWN by Thorton Wilder? My favorite play, and favorite script to read. it really its me hard and brings me to tears every time
its just a play about...life. you watch a girl fall in love, you see a glimpse of a small down, and in the end of course, you see everyone dead. its one of those "time moves on" plays.

DOG SEES GOD was a silly little parody of PEANUTS that tried to raise some serious issues to add some depth to what was essentially a one-joke set up, and just wound up failing miserably. I didn't find it funny, I didn't find any heart in it. I don't remember laughing.
Yeah, a lot of people loved it. Yeah, a lot of people still love it.
There are still people who would vote for George W. Bush.

Posted: 2/19/08 at 3:31pmI recently read On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson. I had never seen the play or any of the movies. But this was the first play I had read in a long time where I really felt like I was there with the characters. The play is just so well written. I really felt like Ethel and Norman had invited me in there home and let me sit in a corner and sip on tea as they went about their lives. I even cried a little at the end as they packed up to move out, because I knew that my visit was also over.

Posted: 2/19/08 at 5:20pmI remember reading Noises Off for the first time (and second and third) it was so hard to follow because of the simultaneous action going on, but once you get the flow of it (particularly the second Act) it's HYSTERICAL.

I sincerely apologize for being a jerk.
Ray, I really should not have said the things I did. The really sad thing is that the point I was trying to make with 'Dog Sees God' is a message of anti-bullying and, boy, do I look like a hypocrite.
It hurts when people publicly state that they hate something that you poured your heart and soul into, but I guess that we live in an age where we have to get used to it.
Nevertheless, I apologize to everyone on this board.

BVR24, I think it's really cool of you to admit you may have overreacted. When I ever I really flip out I blame it on my meds.
Seriously, though, I can only imagine what kind of nightmare the internet could be for someone who makes a living in show business.

I like to read a play before I go see it so I can concentrate more on the performances.
With musicals I almost always know the score from teh cast album going in, so why not read the play in advance?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Yeah, I just finished reading Angels in America, and I LOVED it!
I'm starting to read Pillowman too. I also can't wait to read Bus Stop!
