Gavroche, that would be better. I've always wanted to play the Timpani.
Up In Lost: Yes, that's the one. It was pretty amazing to watch.
All hail Norma's mansion!

I beg to differ, jasonf, I think one of the most exciting/interactive displays would be Sweeney Todd. Just imagine...
Hailing may now commence!

How awesome would Tooey be? It'd be neat to have them explain how the whole puppetry of it works.
Every single show's playbill would be cool and you can purchase old playbills...
Also, Carol Channing has expressed an interest in being a tour guide.
Well, not really, but it would be cool.

Isn't there a library in Lincoln Center or somewhere in NYC that you can go in and watch original videos of past shows. They have like every show. ALl you have to do is give the name of the show that you want to watch, go into a booth and then you watch it.....

It's be neat to have a revivals section. Like, with recordings of the originals, then the revivals. They could also do pictures, Playbills, and costumes from the originals and revivals. Same thing for shows and movies.

Joel the Billy Rose collection at the NY Library for the performing arts has a large collection of video recordings, but hardly "every play." Also, it's not open to the general public, you have to be a student, performer, writer or get special permission to watch.
Mythus -- you get to sit in the chair, a wax Sweeney comes up behind you, lowers his arms over your head, moves them back and forth, and then the chair dumps you down a slide right into the gift shop - where of course they sell pies....
Ok, so maybe I like the idea of a Broadway theme park :) Someone said having Audrey Two -- I'm thinking that would be a great gateway entrance into the museum. C'mon, it's Broadway, if we can't make OUR museum a big spectacle, then no one should be able to!

I'm giving an example to be more clear...
For DRS, you could have a replica of Lawerence's villa and walk around on it...for Spelling Bee, you could have a little competition area with bleachers...for Rocky Horror, you could have Furter's lab.
Kind of like a role play game!
I think we should have a shrine to Idina Menzel and call it a day.
I'd like to see something on Ethel Merman, anything.
Props, costumes, small set pieces and archival recordings would be the coolest to see (and hear). Some of these are actually in the Smithsonian collection already... and some would be a blast if they actually were:
Mrs. Lovett's Act II dress from Sweeney Todd
A plate of egg rolls from the original Gypsy
Stephanie Mills' silver shoes from The Wiz
The bottle of Elixir of Egypt from the original Oklahoma
The pot of gold from Finnian's Rainbow
A dancer's original finale costume from A Chorus Line
Robert Morse's little paperback book from How To Succeed...
Gertie Lawrence's dress from The King and I
Patti LuPone's balcony and her white dress from Evita
Original bottles from the "bottle dance" in Fiddler
Len Cariou's trick razor from Sweeney Todd
Carol Channing's red Dolly dress
Gaylord & Magnolia's costumes from Show Boat
The long dance bar from "Hey Big Spender" in the first Sweet Charity, complete with maniquins in costume leaning on it
Elphaba's hat and broom from Wicked
Andrea McArdle's half-locket from Annie
The list could go on and on, and SHOULD go on and on... But I'd love to buy a ticket if there WAS such a museum.

Folks - there already is an excellent Broadway memorabilia exhibit at the MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK - on Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street. They have many original costumes, props, set models, sketches, posters, sheet music, personal items belonging to the Gershwins, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hammerstein, etc.
There is a wonderful "Mrs. Lovett" doll that Hal Prince gave to Angela Lansbury as an opening night gift.
A collection of every dress worn during "Rose's Turn" from every actress who played Momma Rose. (Merman, Lansbury, Lavin, Daly, Peters...etc.)
If there was a Broadway museum all those rooms would be very VERY expensive. Maybe they could have one room that they would change to represent a different musical. They'd have it as Sweeney for awhile then change it to Follies and just change it every couple of months. That way you get repeat business from theatre locals who would come to see memorobilia and props and such that wouldn't normally be on display. I would also think that use of media systems like I have seen at the Globe Theatre's museum would be a great idea. I would just hate to see it just be a tourist trap if we had a bunch of rooms like phantom, etc...
How about an exhibit featuring the gypsy robes from year to year. Another room devoted to set models. Of course the museum cafe would have to serve Mrs. Lovitt's pies, a lot of spam, magic beans, etc.
Ooh, they could get the big inflatable ho that they used to decorate the theater for the Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public.

I say they take the Phantom Chandelier from the Majestic for our exhibit and buy a new one since the one in there is nearly ancient and takes about 5 minutes to fall lol
