Costumes!!!
Also footage or even whole shows. Get a small theater and show it, like they do in other museums.

Well, you could have a couple of big rooms for each decade, and showcase the type of things they used back then...costumes would be great...maybe wax figures of actors!

Interviews with broadway performers
A virtual show set-up where YOU can be imaged into a show (like, put your image into a scene in a show, and you can move and dance around like you are in it)

I'm talking specific items like...
Tina Maddigan's Wedding Dress and Joe Machota's Speedo from Mamma Mia!
Get my drift?

Posted: 7/4/05 at 11:21amMy memoery may be going, but isn't there a thetre (broadway type) museum in London? I believe it used to be somewhere in Covent Garden. Can anyone confirm this?

Yup! The Victoria and Albert Mueseum in London is for theater.
I would want to see original pieces of sets and costumes. For example: The "Sunday in the Park with George" dress that Bernadette wears in the first scene. Tap shoes from the original "42nd street" ect.

Posted: 7/4/05 at 11:28amSpeaking of originals and the Victoria/Albert Museum in London. When I was there in December, they had an exhibit on the 100 year anniversary of PETER PAN. Part of the display, was the costume the very first Peter Pan (Nina Boucicault) wore in 1904. Now THAT is worthy of a museum...

it would be REALLY cool if there was a camera and you could pretend that you are in the musical. It would be even cooler if you could buy a system that put your voice and you in the place of a character of your choice. Omg, I'm getting chills
It would also be cool if in the souvineer shop you could buy a video of the productions.
These is such a great thread!

Norma's mansion from Sunset Boulevard.
Not bloody likely, though.

Reserve the biggest room for Phantom - not because it's the best show (though it will be the longest running), but because you can have so much fun with it. First, you would need to take a small boat ride to get to it. You go in, and there would be a spot where you turned a corner, and the mannequin (in the wedding dress) fell out at you, like in the Ripley's museum. Various masks and costumes from the Masquerade scene would be everywhere. The room would be lit entirely by candles (electric, I'm assuming). The room would have a very high ceiling, and every ten minutes the chandelier would fly down to about eight feet off the ground and stop. At random times, evil laughs or eerie organ music would play throughout the room - but the speakers would have to be set up in such a way so you couldn't really tell where it was coming from. You'd leave the room through the mouth of a giant monkey....
it would be great!

morebroadwayplease... that would be such an awesome idea! you could be in the musical, but with a bunch of famous people as your costars!
I don't really like wax people...
I think it would be cool if they had a bunch of opening night performance tapes, and they woudl set up some tvs and you would be allowed to watch the tapes. It would take forever, so maybe they would charge something extra to watch the video.

Posted: 7/4/05 at 12:28pmThey could so have a Pit exhibit. A lot of people (Including myself) don't know much of anything that goes on in the pit.

Forester, how about if the muesuem provided instruments?
Another possibility...take all the greatest Broadway actors and actresses and make small exhibits for them...
