If you were the Artistic Director for a regional theatre, what would your season be?

Let's say you were the artistic director for a major regional theatre company. Getting talent and audience is not an issue. Your audience is an equal mixture of all types. You are doing six shows in one summer - with a MAXIMUM of two musicals. The performance arts center you are located in includes a large proscenium theatre and a smaller, more intimate theatre.

What would your season be? (You may only choose shows whose rights are available for licensing)

Here's mine:

Smaller Theatre:
- Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
- The Visit
- Bat Boy

Larger Theatre:
- The Man Who Came To Dinner
- Hamlet
- Peter Pan (Stiles & Drewe version)
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

But, CapnHook, in the large section, all I put were two. Everybody knows that The Times They Are A-Changin' was a one man monologue performed by Kermit The Frog.

Well I was going to post the next summer season in Ogunquit, but it hasn't been offically announced yet....

And it's all musicals......

Medium Theatre, second year, 7-show season

The Bacchae
The King & I
Henry V
The Skriker
The Octaroon
Miss Saigon
The Lady From the Sea

Second sold-out season. Grants from everywhere. Agents for Hollywood actors pounding at the gate to get them on my stage--all gently declined with the exception of actors with prior stage experience--in other words Ralph Fiennes is made welcome.

Unfortunately, The Woman In White rights are not yet available. The national UK tour is still being considered and the rights will most likely be released in time after that. Its all up to Really Useful Group.
