It's amazing how hearing a score in proper show order can alter your opinion about it's overall quality.
Bravo, BK. Thanks so much for your efforts here. It's a sublime release and I can't wait for more!!!

While I'm gushing, I might as well add that I didn't expect to be so completely swept away by the Overture. I've had the LP for years and recently a friend made me an LP to mp3 transfer for my ipod, but hearing those sumptuous bouzouki-flavored orchestrations by Ralph Burns with such clarity is worth the price of the album alone.

My dad liked this show so much, we went back for seconds at a matinee before leaving town. I loved the orchestra, which had so many exotic instruments and a sound utterly unlike anything I had ever heard on Broadway to that point. There are several times in the show when just about everyone in the pit seemed to be plucking something, it's such a rhythm-based arrangement.
Pizzicato heaven.
And then add in the wonderful croaking of Melina Mercuri, who again was so un-Broadway. Quite a fun evening.
