Hello all, so tomorrow iam going to see Wicked! i am very excited this will be my third time seeing the show but i seem to have forgotten if they check you for cameras and stuff. I know they did a little mini bag search and stuff for the girls but has it gotten strick since Idina's death threats. My friends and I are making a day in the city and they wanna bring cameras for the whole day but i told them not to because of the death threats and theaters policies on stuff like that. If anyone has currently seen wicked is it the same and maybe we can smuggle it in. Please someone help hahaha thanks! :)
It is illegal to take pictures (doesn't matter if its not flash or flash), record video, or record audio once inside the theatre building. Some theatres have a policy where you can't bring the camera equipment period.

First of all, as per Eq. rules, you cant take any sort of pictures inside the theatre.
All theatres will check your bag for cameras and recording devices. I havent been up to the Gershwin since the threats started, so Im not sure how indepth they are being with their bag searches. That being said, I always have my camera in my purse and have never been stopped for it going into a broadway show. (though I did have a guard waste all my film at a Creed concert once so I wouldnt use it during the show)

We do not want to take pictures in the theater. We are coming in by train and we would have no place to store the cameras during the show thats why we have to bring them in the theater but i was not sure if they would make you leave it somewhere. I have no interest in taking pictures inside the theater.
It's not just a safety issue or a nuisance issue - the set design and sometimes even the architecture in the theatre are copyrighted (doesn't matter if they're just for your own personal use) and bad things happen to people who take photos without authorization. I would highly not recommend.

if you think about it... many people who see shows are from out of town or just want to take pictures before or after the show. i have seen many shows and always have a camera and have never once been stopped...
on that note, on sunday's performance, chris fitzgerald's last day, many many flashes were going off during the curtain call.
I was at the Gershwin in July.. We took a camera and all they did was check to see if you had any weapong in our bag.. So I would say take it !! Have fun !

The bag "searches" are ridiculous. They poke around for .5 seconds and then they send you on your way. It's really stupid if you ask me, if they're going to search, at least make it worth it. I don't think you'll have a problem.

they only check if you have a bag...i suggest you don't bring one....they won't confiscate it though...

When I went to Wicked 2 weeks ago, a lot of people were taking pictures of the curtain before the show and curtain call after...I took a picture of the curtain and a lady that seats you was standing like 5 feet from me and she didn't say anything
Yeah, the ushers arent strict at all about taking photos...or at least when I usually go to see shows which is quite often.
Mind if I ask this question again here? I am coming from out of town and will have a small bag with me. I will not have time to check into my hotel before seeing the matinee for Wicked. Does anyone here know if the Gershwin has a coat check?

I went to see Wicked at the end of December. I had a camera in my purse and my boyfriend had his video camera. We had these things as we were sightseeing before the show. The guy checking bags saw both the video camera and the digital camera, and just asked us not to use them during the show. We were worried that they wouldn't let us in with them, but it wasn't a problem at all. Updated On: 1/5/05 at 06:46 PM

Though you really shouldn't take pictures, the ushers are rather lax. When I saw Wonderful Town, the ushers just yelled at people who took pictures but they just yelled from where ever they were standing and didn't approach the people taking pictures.

The ushers at the Gershwin were not nice when I went. I asked for a Playbill and I couldn't hear her say that it was over by the other usher and I didn't ear her and she got really impatient with me.
