I am writing an article on Wicked's following and have some questions:
1.) What was Wicked's budget? How fast did it earn back?
2.) How much do other productions...tour, chicago...pull in each week? How does this compare to other shows?
3.) How many Broadway shows, percentage wise, close at a loss?
Thank You!
1) A lot. fast.
2) A lot. Most tours make money.
3) Most.

1.) What was Wicked's budget? How fast did it earn back?
It took them about a year after opening on Broadway to earn back their investment, which was reported to be about $13 million.
2.) How much do other productions...tour, chicago...pull in each week? How does this compare to other shows?
It pulls in roughly 1.2 million per week in every city. Check Variety for exact numbers.
3.) How many Broadway shows, percentage wise, close at a loss?
It's a very high percentage...I think it's in the mid-nineties.
Jerkish alert on my part:
If it's for an article, I think official research is FAR more credible than rando "information" from a message board. We could tell ya anything on here (like Wicked only has high weekly sales due to their consession intake, not ticket sales), but factual information is far more intruiging.
Asking where you could find this information would be more benefitial. I'd say check out BWW's or BW.com's weekly grosses and do some comparison work. Happy hunting!

ALL questions about Wicked are important!
On December 21st, 2004, it was announced that the musical recouped it's $14 million only 14 months after it's opening.
About 80% of shows never recoup and it often takes successful musicals two to three years to recoup.
