In The Heights - Eden Espinosa

After reading the interview with Karen Olivo on Playbill.com, she had stated that her good friend "Eden Espinosa" was in the first couple of readings for In The Heights as Nina. I remember thinking to myself the other day when I was listening to the recording how I thought Eden could have possibly played the role, it was interesting to see that she did at least early on.

Does anyone know why she didn't continue with the project?

Maybe Eden was getting more money doing Wicked and that is why she didn't continue with In The Heights.

Yeah I guess that would be it, but I find it odd that she would pass up the chance to originate another role in a show rather than re-create a role that's been recycled over and over?

I mean that's under the assumption that she was even offered to continue with the show Off-Broadway and beyond.

And why is it you think that Mandy Gonzalez hasn't been approached to play Elphaba yet?

I'm not saying that she hasn't, she probably has. It would be interesting to see her take on the role although I'm sure she's already filled to the rim with the stuff she has to sing in "Heights".

I noticed in the program that Janet Decal is u/s for Nina. Does she have the vocal range for the role? I think I had heard that Krysta went on a couple of times.

Just an observation. Don't eat me.

Check out the ITH love thread if you're brave enough. Dacal's Nina has been witnessed and loved by at least one or two members of this site. I can't imagine her being as belty as Mandy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. She's got one HECKUVA belt on her, that girl!
