Krysta Rodriguez will be playing the role of Nina on Wednesday, May 20th and Saturday, May 23rd, and Janet Dacal will be playing the role of Nina May 21st, May 22nd and Sunday, May 24th in IN THE HEIGHTS.

I saw Janet Dacal as Vanessa and though she was actually incredible. Marcy Harriell is still my favorite and I found Karen Olivo to be incredibly boring.

I've seen both Karen and Marcey...Karen is way better. Marcey isn't bad, but Karen's belting and just her "attitude" worked so well!

My problem with Karen was that she was all "attitude" and not a lot else. The character didn't go anywhere for me. I like Marcy because her Vanessa has attitude but still has a sweetness to her.

I went to see the show without knowing a thing about anyone. The actor who MADE the show for me was Marcy. I just cared about Vanessa the way she played it. And when I bought the CD and listened to Karen (who had BETTER AS HELL win the Tony for what she did in West Side Story), I decided I will always prefer Marcy as Vanessa - she plays it stronger than the way it sounds like Karen played it (and from the clips of her I've seen). That being said, when I went back to see it a second time (again, only because of Marcy's performance), she was not on nearly as well (and the cast had several underwhelming understudies on for Piragua guy and for Sonny, which may have contributed to an overall lack of energy on stage - it does affect the rest of the cast). But the star this time was obviously Lin's replacement Javier Munoz. This guy is truly fantastic. I love when a replacement comes in and kicks ass.

I saw Janet as Vanessa and Krysta as Carla. I had never seen the show before, but I thought they were both incredible in their performances. Krysta was adorable as Carla, and Janet really took on the role well.

Pretty is what changes. What the eye arranges is what is beautiful.

Back in March I saw Krysta as Vanessa and Nina Lafarga as Nina at the same performance. I was very curious about Krysta, but found I wanted more. Nina felt like a trainwreck. Stiff as a board, no facial expressions, no power. I heard after it was one of her first times going on, so I probably shouldn't be as judgmental. I hope she has improved since.

I saw Janet as Nina last July. When I saw her name on the understudy board, I was very disappointed because I had heard negative things about Janet as Nina on this site.

However, I thought she was fantastic in the role. I felt that her voice was a better contrast to Christopher Jackson's, specifically on When You're Home. Also, I was kind of turned off by Mandy Gonzalez's wobbly tones, which Janet did not have, though she was a bit shrill at times. I was incredibly surprised and impressed by her Nina. I'd say check her performance out if you can!

She's gone on at least four times on Broadway (two two-show days). I don't know how many times off-Broadway, though.

I saw Krysta as Nina and was NOT impressed. I loved Marcy, but I also loved Karen. They are just different, but I can't say which is better. I also saw Shaun on for Sonny, and I have to say I really liked him, which is surprising because I was so upset Robin wasn't on. Eliseo as Kevin is amazing. He was so much better than Carlos EVER was. I have yet to see the new Kevin or Usnavi though. I'll make sure to see it a fourth time soon!

This was the board tonight. Thought that most of them were great. It was also my first time seeing the show without Lin and I loved Javier.

The Friday nights board is crazy! I saw went in to check it out and was shocked. Unfortunately I had ticket to see another show so I couldn't see all the understudies! I was probably next to while you were taking that picture.

I saw him his first time he went on (I think) and I thought he was very good. His singing/rapping wasn't great but he was a very fun Usnavi.

I saw In The Heights for the first time Sunday 5/24 7pm. I knew very little about the show despite all the Tony hype last year (ie I have no point of reference re. previous performers). Janet played Nina and I was duly impressed. Her voice was fabulous and I connected with her character. Krysta played Vanessa and I enjoyed her performance, although it was Janet who really wowed me.
