Who’s been nominated in the greatest number of different Tony Award categories? George C. Wolfe was the first who came to mind, as he has been nominated in 7 categories:

• Direction/Play
• Direction/Musical
• Play
• Musical
• Book
• Score
• Special Theatrical Event
• (plus a Lifetime Achievement)

Has anyone else cracked or surpassed 7 categories?

 

RELATED QUESTION! Which individuals have had the most Tony noms on a single night? (co-producers aside.) I saw a stat about tonight's Oscars saying that ANORA director Sean Baker could win in 4 categories in one night: Editing, Screenplay, Director, Picture. Alfonso Cuaron also had 4 in one night for ROMA, plus an International Film nomination that doesn't technically go to him.
