[Insert 80's pop icon]! The Musical

No, not really. But I was watching an ABBA concert on TV and wondering why did ABBA, of all people, get a musical based on their songs. Or even Peter Allen? What other bands/singers should have their songs adapted for a musical?

My picks:
- Michael Jackson (Really. But maybe it would work better as a Movin' Out-type show.)
- U2
- Elton John
"It's not always about you!!!" (But if you think I'm referring to you anyway, then I probably am.)

"Good luck returning my ass!" - Wilhemina Slater

"This is my breakfast, lunch and f***ing dinner right here. I'm not even f***in' joking." - Colin Farrell

re: WHAM! The Musical

Well I know queen is being used for "We will rock you" currently at Paris Las Vegas, not sure if it ever was on broadway or even off before hand though. I would love to see Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, or the Beach Boys... ok so the last one would be corny and peppy... but every once in a while we need a little sap in our lives
You, you are the worst thing to happen to musical theater since Andrew Lloyd Webber... and you I just don't like you.

What about? --

"I'm Rick James, Bitch -- The Musical"

Act One Closing Showstopper -- Rick sings a love song to his crackpipe and then goes downstairs and burns the girl he's got kidnapped and chained to the wall of his basement with it.

re: WHAM! The Musical

It's a testament to the crappiness of current music that there isn't enough versatility in today's artists to be able to carry a show. Unless the show is only about love. Heartache. Sex. Can you imagine N*Sync or Nickelback musical? (GAH!)

Yeah, it's the sad truth. The real talent aren't appealing. The labels don't want anything to do with them. Which is what brings me to my sad conclusion: "how can they believe there's life on other planets, if they don't have it on our own??" Think about it

Personally I think Hanson and the Spice Girls should collaborate.

re: WHAM! The Musical

ABBA probably got a musical based on their songs because:

1. The songs are very melodic and often have narrative lyrics.

2. They are the world's #1 selling pop group of all time.

3. Their music has proven to stand the test of time.

I agree with Michael Jackson... they need to make a musical using his music.
And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

How about a grandiose overblown rock opera using the grandiose overblown music of composer Jim Steinman?

A Pat Benatar musical, anyone?

Peter Allen got a musical because he's really popular in Australia. ABBA got a musical because tons of the Broadway tourist audience (and plenty of New Yorkers, too) have ABBA Gold in their CD collections. Simple as that.

I went to see 13 going on 30 just for the Rick Springfield references.

Maybe they should do a musical about the year that 27-year-old Rick Springfield lived (romantically) with 15-year-old Linda Blair.

ABBA got their songs made into a musical because:

1: Homosexuals love ABBA.

2: Homosexuals love Broadway musicals.
