Per Michael Reidel:
Actor Daniel Davis has been fired from "La Cage aux Folles" for obnoxious offstage behavior after feuding with his co-star, Gary Beach, and other members of the Broadway production.
Davis, who played Georges in the revival of the Tony-winning musical, was sacked after yesterday's matinee, production insiders said.

Somehow I'm less than surprised at the way Riedel states his news...
aaaaanyway, very interesting indeed.
This is intriguing...
And terrible.
From what I've heard he is the best part of the production...
Wow. If it's true, expect a press release to come later this morning...
If it IS true, do you think he'll get a Tony nomination? He's gotten some of the best leading man reviews this year, and he was on my list of nominees.
Broadway.com's got the story too:

They don't go into as much detail as the Post, though.
I think he still could get the nod, but I doubt he has a chance at winning now...
Too bad - he was the best thing in the show (except for les cagelles).
Couldn't they come up with anyone but Robert Goulet. The man is the personification of phony. I've seen him perform twice - the Disney machines are more life like.

I always knew something was up with Daniel Davis. He seems like the "bitchy-I'm-an-actor-and-I'm-fabulous-so-get-me-my-tea-with-lemon-now" person. If the reports about his backstage antics are true, then I am glad that they fired him.
Very interesting indeed. I actually thought he was the best part of the show.
That's very interesting. And if he really was an idiot good for them for firing him.
However, the incident about him walking through the theatre mumbling 'I can't believe I'm in this f*cking show' is laughable. I don't want to know how many performers do that on a daily basis.

God, I've done that often enough, even with shows I've loved doing...
It's when the audience says it back to you that you're in trouble.
That's a very valid point, wildcat.
I remember speaking to performers at stage doors who were more than happy to express their disbelief in doing 'this f*cking show'.

It's true...

sad...he was good, too...robert goulet is so plastic
Wonder if he'll do the whole performance with his hands in his pockets, like he did in "On a Clear Day..."
I wonder if they will keep the kiss at the end in .

wow...even in professional theatre there's drama on and off stage.
Something about performing in Vegas for a long time- all the performers look like they're dipped in formaldehyde.
Ugh! Robert Goulet will NOT bring anything to the role!
I have tickets to bring some out of town friends later in April. I'm re-thinking it. I may see if something else is available.

I think it's a shame. Both he and Gary Beach were the only two reasons that I saw the show in the first place. I still like them in spite of all this mess, but I have absolutely no desire to see Robert Goulet in this production, so will have to turn in my ticket for July. Now I'm looking for something else to see instead....
They call it a Diablo Martini, cuz it gives you a devil of a good time.
Smell that? Lavender!

Oh, dear. My mom's in love with Daniel Davis... it'll break her heart if she hears that he's (apparantly) kind of a b!tch, backstage. Ah, well, who said she has to find out, anyway? Ignorance is bliss.
Anyway, I'm glad I saw it when I did. His performance was great. Such a pity...
Well I have a sneaking suspicion that it was a mutual decision. Equity has pretty tight rules when it comes to firing an actor, and being a son of a bitch is not just cause for firing someone.
I just wonder what will happen to the recording now. I have pledged $20 for the revival, but if it is going to be Robert Goulet and not Davis I want my money back.
I am glad he was fired, particularly if he was nasty to Gary Beach who one of the sweetest men working on Broadway today.
No one is so talented that abuse should be tolerated from them.
I applaud the producers for having the guts to do it.
