I guess I forgot that there was a 1997 revival. It only lasted 2 performances. Does anyone know what happen, why it flopped and who was in it?

The reason I came about this was a local theater of mine is doing the show and for some reason in their ads they use the tag "Best Musical! 1997 Drama Desk Awards". I found that odd, since it won the Tony for the revival and the original production. Just thought wow, when did that happen and why would they use that one instead of the higher profile ones?

Comments and answers please!

First of all, the 1997 version was a benefit concert for the 10th anniversary of the original show. It was only a one day. Secondly, the original production of Into the Woods did not win Best Musical in 1988 ... Phantom did. It did win the Drama Desk though in 1988, so I can't really answer your question about the poster your local theatre used.

Yeah, that Drama Desk bit is a typo.

Sondheim.com hasn't really been maintained or updated in a long time. IBDB.com is a better source for the awards.
