OK...I just spent 20 min. searching old message boards for answers, and I couldn't find anything. Forgive me if this has been discussed before.
My daughter's middle school will be doing the Junior version of Woods....I love this show!!. I have heard the Junior version is only the first act...can anyone confirm or deny? Also, any other changes? Are the characters the same? Are the vocal ranges the same as the OBC? Thanks for any info..she'll be auditioning in early January.
I believe it is only the first act, becuase the MTI cd that comes with it has only the tracks:

Thank you so much for the song list! It will be intersesting to see if they can pull this off...talk about tough material! (Unless the Jr. version gets watered down somehow.)
I was the Baker in the junior version a few years ago.
The show is extremely watered down, and it is only the first act. This first act retelling is then broken up into two acts. Some of the keys are changed a bit, as some of the show would be extremely vocally taxing on young kids.
The characters are basically the same.
It's a good show; I had fun with it. It's an accurate retelling of the good parts of 'Into the Woods,' where everything is still happy. The ending is fun, too.

You'll note: "Hello Little Girl" is used only as underscoring. The song is cut.
Hmmm. That's weird.
In the version I did tow years ago, we did, "Hello, Little Girl" - or at least part of it. I have the MTI script with me now, and it is in it.
Also, the longer songs, like, "It Takes Two" are cut, and all of the harmonies are simplified.
i'm quite sure you MUST have paid for that copy of your script.
excuse me, Playbill9117?
As I stated earlier, my school did this a few years ago, and I was in it as the Baker. We bought libretti from MTI. So, indeed, the script was paid for. Not by myself personally, but through the program at my school. And the libretti were ours to keep - as junior versions, MTI even included places for cast photos and autographs.
k thanks.
what a lovely service! I'll have to check that out sometime.
There are some people who steal from MTI, and drive up rental costs for everyone (what nerve!) As a dramatic educator, it is in my best interest to encourage people not to do such a thing. I apologize if I inadvertantly offended you.
I was in the Jr version a few years ago as Little Red Ridinghood- we did only the first act and all of "Hello Little Girl" I think... I don't remember.

"As a dramatic educator..."
Hahaha. You've certainly proved that to be true.
hah.
it's all right, playbill.
i just wanted to clear things up. sorry about sarcasm.
:)
Also, "Hello Little Girl" is full in the Jr. version. Obviously, some of the *cough* gestures the wolf does are not encouraged in the jr. show.
umm.. yeah, whoever built that costume had obviously never worked in "Legitimate" theatre.
Thanks for the info! Are the singing parts the same in the junior version? My daughter's voice is perfect for the witch or the baker's wife...Cinderella would be too high. We'll just see if all those voice lessons have paid off.
to my knowlege, the singing parts in this show, as well as MTI's other "Junior" shows are simplified and lowered, where necessary, for young performers. I'm sure your daughter will do very well!
