I just took that as being LITERALLY "hair as yellow as corn"...
I guess the "you too, son" explanation works for why the spell doesn't work on Rapunzel...

Posted: 2/17/07 at 2:30pmI'm loving this boom of Into the Woods threads on the boards. I love the show, but it does have many plot holes.

Posted: 2/17/07 at 2:45pmThe hair from the corn works because THe Witch wanted hair as yellow as corn. Rapunzel's hair didn't work because The Witch and had touched it and she couldn't touch the ingredients which is why she could not get them herself.

I wouldn't necessarily call these plot holes, just tiny squabbles that can easily be explained, just as easily as they can be brought up.

Posted: 2/17/07 at 5:10pmBut the witch asked for HAIR as yellow as corn. Not the hair from corn. If that's all that was needed, why didn't the witch just say, oh, what the hell, just get an ear of corn, that will do.

The witch did not ask for human hair as yellow as corn - she simply asked for hair.

But corn silk is not hair...nor is it yellow.
See, I think I would have made Cinderella a blonde for this moment...

"But corn hair is not hair"
You just called it hair - and while we don't see freshly plucked corn with it's HAIR still attached, it like blonde - or yellow.
We also don't call human hair yellow.

Posted: 2/17/07 at 5:33pmI guess. I always found it a very phony moment. Like when the gang sings "Giants can be good" just before blinding one and bonking her on the head.

Sondheim sure does love his yellow hair, doesn't he?
"Buried sweetly in your yellow hair..."
