Iphigenia in Aulis

Have been a member of CSC for many ears, but last year was so dreadful I thought about dropping it. Glad I didn't. Saw this last night, on the whole, very good. I did not like the injecting of comedy into tragedy. For example, Achilles being played as a NJ thug. My companion, however, thought it provided a break in the dramatic intensity and rated the whole production a bit higher then I did. The vocal and dancing talents of the Greek Chorus were amazing and worth the price of admission. Set was nice, costumes not so much

I would've loved to see it but didn't realize it only ran until Sunday. Anne Washburn is quickly becoming one of my favorite playwrights.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

It was extended until October 4.

I saw the show last week and have pretty mixed feelings. I honestly didn't care much for the story itself but the chorus songs/movements were really great. I'm a huge fan of Anne Washburn as well but felt as though there was nothing much in the book scenes.

All three of the actors (who play multiple characters) in the book scenes are seriously lacking. Amber Gray was definitely the worst of the bunch. When she played her male character she kept pounding on her chest to denote any form of emotion which got real tiresome.

The show is fairly short (about 100 mins without intermission) with a large chunk of that taken up by original music by The Bengsons. Honestly that was the only thing that kept me engaged in the show. It could have been an hour of just the chorus and I would have been happier.
