That especially annoys me! It's bad enough when they start applauding when a vocalist has finished but the orchestra is still ending the song--I think that's incredibly disrespectful to the orchestra, but many many songs people start applauding when someone is holding a long note and the applause breaks into their note so that I can't hear the end.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

CapnHook - it may be the last thing YOU want to hear, but think of the people around you. Not everyone goes to the theater as much as the people here do. What do these people know? When you go see a fancy Broadway show, you dress up and you applaud like good little audience members. If you don't want to applaud, that's fine. Just think of the people around you who may or may not have ever seen a show before. They want the full experience and there is nothing wrong with that.

In regards to the actors, they get their jollies from an enthusiastic audience. The actors get their energy from an energetic audience. Do you really think they'd get the same from stunned silence? When you're up on a stage, how can you realize the difference between stunned silence and "Oh dear, he sucks!" silence? Updated On: 12/14/06 at 01:43 PM
