It seems like this show speaks to a younger generation, just as Rent did. After the fans are growing out of Rent recently, they're trying to find their neiche (?) in other shows, such as Wicked or Drowsy. Does anyone else think that this will be a show that kids will really latch onto due to the content, music, etc?
I hope so. I really hope that it makes it on Broadway. It's been discussed though that they will need to really re tune it to fit in a bigger venue. I don't really know if RENT's popularity is dying out but I think that like RENT, Spring has a wide audience and who knows?
I think it will need to be re-staged. I like the staging as it is now, but one of the 1st discussions my friend and I had while leaving the theatre was how it would be staged if it transferred. I was at the final preview and I overheard them talking about the possibility of a tranfer.

One of the cast members that I was talking to after the show last night, had talked to Manoel Felciano [who was in the audience], and he said that Manoel said, "I think you're moving into our theatre!" Meaning Sweeney is closing, and Spring Awakening will go into the O'Neil.
Awesome! One amazing show following another! Can't wait!
Not that it's not becoming glaringly obvious that Sweeney won't last much longer, but I really hope that Mano's words took the route of a bad game of telephone. I'm sure Spring Awakening is wonderful, but meh. When is it supposed to be coming in?

Then again, everyone remember how people were hyping up BKLYN to be the next RENT? People say a lot of things, but for those of you who saw Brooklyn, you get the joke.

That's just what I was told. So, here's my disclaimer. It totally could've been misconstrued through a game of telephone!

I have seen the show and loved it, but I really believe that a broadway transfer is a big mistake. This show could be great in an off-b'way venue. Mark my words... it will get lost on b'way. But, I hope I'm wrong because I wish them the best of luck!

I can't claim it as a fact, but my daughter is VERY close friends with one of the cast members who says it is going into the theater where Sweeney is now and it is slated for November and that Lea is staying with Spring Awakening.
Wow. If true, I'm glad Lea is sticking with SPRING AWAKENING. I was under the impression that she had already signed a contract with LES MIS. But maybe it had an exit clause had SPRING AWAKENING made a Broadway transfer, which it now is going to.
Who exactly is the RENT generation? I mean most of the original "Rent heads" are about 30 now.
I don't think SPRING AWAKENINGS is so much for that RENT generation as the WEDDING SINGER generation.
And nobody is going to hold Lea Michele to her Eponine contract when she has the opportunity to create a role in a new Broadway musical. They can easily find a new Eponine.

God, I hope not. I know nothing about about Spring Awakening, but I know that Rent is terrible. I hope this show isn't the same way. It would be a shame if it is.
