This looks like it was made in 10 seconds on Microsoft Word.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 10:49amMaybe it reflects a minimalist concept in the show including increasingly smaller line readings (ie lower volume)...

I understand the concept of the text getting smaller and smaller.
It's as though Little Sheba is becoming farther and farther out of reach.
It just seems like they could have at least made it look somewhat professional.

What is this play about?
ETA: It probably took them an extra 5 minutes to do that really impressive photoshop of the photograph covering the black box outline!!

Posted: 1/5/08 at 10:57amWithout giving any spoilers away, the play is about a faded beauty queen in the Midwest in 1950, and her husband who has just overcome alcoholism.

re: Is MTC's Graphic Designer On Strike?#7
Posted: 1/5/08 at 11:09amThey were going to use Arial, but Disney has exclusive rights for their Playbills.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 11:15amIs that Times New Roman? Did they really just go into MS Word and use the default font?
re: Is MTC's Graphic Designer On Strike?#9
Posted: 1/5/08 at 12:25pmNo, Times New Roman is a serif font. As SDAV stated above, it looks like Helvetica (or at least a very close variant). The parallel lines in the closure of the C are a dead give away. At least the clipping path on the photo is pretty good.

It looks VERY 50s, but something is not quite right about it.

Posted: 1/5/08 at 3:39pmB3TA07, putting the picture on top of the lines is a 20 second layer rearrangement on photoshop. If you put the line below the picture, it ends up looking like that.

The concept is fine. The execution is poor.
It reminds me of the fliers that my no-budget drama department in high school cobbled together for a production of "Tartuffe."

Posted: 1/5/08 at 5:49pmI would like it if they had used a different font. There are plenty of fonts that are simple and not fancy that aren't Helvetica/Arial.

Clearly you haven't been to art school.

Aside:
All I hope is that Roundabout's Playbill for SUNDAY IN THE PARK... is in color. For obvious reasons.
But it won't be.
