Mel Brooks is planning 'Blazing Saddles' The Musical.
OK, not such new news but as he is now starting to pay comment on it there are lots of different reports out there now.

I find it interesting that after the slow start for 'Young Frankenstein' on Broadway 2 years ago and its critical drumming, Mr Brooks was recorded saying that he always had the gut feeling it would have fared better in the West End of London. The show limped along for a year.

He has reportedly written two songs for the show and is currently working on a third to a musical version of his massive 1974 movie..

This is the interview that got me thinking 'Blazing Saddles' will open in London prior to New York:
' If I did it and I very much hope I do, I wouldn't rush to New York with it because the New York Times would say, 'Oh dear, oh dear, another Mel Brooks movie converted and transmogrified into another Mel Brooks stage musical... The New York Times was only lukewarm to my 'Young Frankenstein'.

He rode a blazing saddle, he wore a shining star
His job to offer battle, to bad men near and far

He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned our (dark?) night into daaaaaaaay
He made his blazing saddle, a torch to light the way

I love that film. :)

I've got my stetson and chaps ready.

I'm also very tempted to see 'Young Frankenstein' again on the US tour this May/June - I understand it's getting better reviews than it had on Broadway (and I loved it there).

I also enjoyed Young Frankenstein, thought it had great songs and 'Puttin on the Ritz' really was quite brilliant, however what I didn't like about it was the greed driven by Mel Brooks, who wanted to charge a record $450 premium seating and the refusal to publish the show grosses to the Broadway League.

Be great to see you John in your stetson and chaps, you really must publish your photo gallery again.

I never understand how people can let what they have paid spoil the enjoyment of the night.
As you said, you enjoyed it, so stop thinking about the ticket price. Don't want to pay it don't see it
