As per the thread that announced the closing of Wicked in LA it had said that the Phantom tour was going to go to the Pantages after Wicked was done.
That being said it begs me to ask two questions. The first off being is Phantom Las Vegas closing soon?
I would think it would have to because the second question is I thought that now that the show is in Vegas it means that no other west coast productions can play in that region.
I don't think the clause extends past a certain amount of time. The Phantom tour will be in Sacramento soon.
LizzieCurry you caught me off guard. I had seen you reply and I automatically thought that you were going to be sarcastic.
That being said I didn't know that. I had thought that a Vegas production would be the only production of any show on the west coast. I know that Jersey Boys for example got all the west cost stops of their tour out of the way first so that they could make room for the Vegas production of the show and as soon as Spamalot opened up the tour stopped going to the west coast. Same for Hairspray and Avenue Q.
The Sacramento thing threw me off too, but maybe they wait a while to see how a Vegas production does and if there is a possibility of there being a legitimate "threat" by the tour being in the next state? Maybe Jersey Boys overloaded on CA stops just to be careful? Maybe Phantom figured out there wouldn't be an issue and Spamalot is waiting to figure that out too? Who knows.

And unlike Jersey Boys, Hairspray and Avenue Q, Phantom has been around since the dawn of time.
Lizzie, I agree with you.
Also, It isn't as common as people think that people from the west coast would go to vegas often. I think that they went out of their way to say how much different the Las Vegas production of the show is as oppose to the one that is on Broadway or in London. That being said, they might not have thought that they would have been in any major states if the tour stopped in California.
The POTO tour will be touring California, Oregon, and Washington, but PLV is doing great, and is not closing soon.
Is PLV doing great? I keep hearing it's attendance is hovering around 30-40%. Did it jump recently?
Even if it's losing money, the Venetian won't close it until they have another marquee show to put in that theater.
It's important to remember in this situation that, in Vegas, we are not dealing with The Phantom of the Opera.
We are dealing with ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S LAS VEGAS PHANTOM SPECTACULAR.
I guess the tour is just short of spectacular?
I have a friend who was just hired to play in the orchestra, so I doubt they're closing soon. I haven't asked.
I do know that Brent is leaving.

The "No West Coast Tour Stop" clause is NOT applicable to every Vegas show. If it were MAMMA MIA wouldn't have come through California at all in the last five years. It's only applicable to certain shows (and it seems the trend that its only WYNN casino shows, I think).
So PHANTOM coming here doesn't mean anything. PHANTOM Vegas is still making money. I don't see them closing it anytime soon.
They keep taking the talent from the show away, so I'm not sure.
I guess attendeance is OK.
My parents are going to Vegas soon and I'll ask them to see if they see/hear anything.
That theatre is something else, so I agree that they would need to have a big show ready to move in ASAP if/when they drop the chandelier for the last time in Sin City.

There have been several theaters in Vegas sitting empty for months between shows, not sure where all this talk of needing to have a new tenant ready to come in is coming from.
It has to do with the Venetian being a major casino in competition with the very best of the south end of the strip. Even if Phantom isn't profitable, it is a marquee brand for the casino and even if it pulls in 600 people per show, those are 600 more people who may potentially gamble. Look at the major players on the strip and you'll see that they all offer one major show and a couple of smaller shows.
I was in Vegas last week. I'm not sure how Phantom is doing there, but next month Jersey Boys will be starting at the Palazzo theater. It just might push Phantom out.
I hope not, it's so vastly superior to every other production.

I agree with the statment that 600 people seeing Phantom are 600 more people that aren't gambling.
I don't think that Jersey Boys has anything to do with Phantom at all. Considering the fact that they are playing in two different theatres or I should say two different hotels.
I don't think that Jersey Boys has anything to do with Phantom at all.
Well, there are the people who'd say "Oh, honey, we saw Phantom 14/5/3 years ago...but Jersey Boys isn't coming anywhere near [hometown], so let's see it while we're here."
