Yes its a Kathy Lee show, but it sounds like a wonderful role for one of Broadway's best. Will this role transform Ms Carmello from Replacement superstar to a true leading lady worthy of original shows written just for her. Thoughts? I adore her like no other, but have always felt she wasn't getting the roles she should (Into the Woods, for example). Reports from the original production of Aimee all say that Carmello was fantastic, never left the stage, and gave a stunning vocal lesson.

I saw the world premiere in White Plains in October 2005, and yes, Carolee was fantastic in it. I loved the show too. The music was excellent and the story was captivating. It ran about 3 hours, so it needs to be cut a bit, but I think it would get excellent reviews in NY (and it would get Carolee her well-deserved Tony Award).
Here's a link to a past thread on the show:

Seriously between the casting of Carmello in this role, Jason Robert Brown's involvement in Songs for a New World, and this summer's production of Witches of Eastwick, I am really in love with Signature Theatre right now. I have had tickets to all these shows for a while, so am really happy how things are turning out.
Signature's season is great, unlike some other DC theatres that shall not be named.
