While browsing through craigslist to see if anyone had any free twelfth night tickets that they weren't using I came across an offer for free tickets to Sessions the musical. Now, I will admit, the whole set up of the musical kinda caught my interest. But, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it such as, is it good or not?
Also, I looked up information on the show from The New York Times website and it says that it started previews October of last year and is set to open October of this year. A whole year full of previews ?!?!?
I saw it (for free) and was not impressed at all. I felt bad for the talented actors up on that stage.
I mean originally it played a limited run and I was kinda upset that I missed it because as I said the whole story line seemed interesting. A friend of mine saw it and enjoyed it and I was thinking about going but never got to due to the fact that it was a limited run.
Should I check this out due to the fact that its free. I mean I am not sure I want to waist my time on something that is crap. Medocre is one thing. Crap is something else.
Eh, I don't know. I'm never one to pass up on something that's free, so if I were you I would just go. The storyline does sound interesting, but unfortunately it's just so poorly written and executed.
I'm with #1Elphie. I saw it at...was it Playwright's Horizons before? Wherever it was first and was mildly entertained. Then I saw it (free this time) in the remounting at the Algonquin to see what the reported changes were. Well...I didn't see anything that jumped out as being changed. Except I thought it was even less entertaining.
But...it's free, so it might be worth a shot. I've heard there's been a cast change or switch since I saw it. Maybe that works?
The cast, especially Maya Days, is infinitely more talented than the material.
It's not so bad that it isn't worth seeing for free, though. LOL.

I saw it for free thanks to CraigsList and we left at intermission.
Ouch. That's bad. ^
Although, after I hit "post" I thought to myself: it's easier to walk out on a show that is free than one you've paid for. A no loss kind of thing.
I would say YES, DEFINITELY, GO SEE IT, although that might be a bit skewed since I have had a hand in producing the thing. lol. But come see it, you can even be my guest. Robert Newman is the lead now, and Rachelle Rak the female lead, with Liz Larsen and Ken Jennings and Bertilla Baker and a bunch of others. Robert is a strong leading man type with a lovely voice and Rachelle is...well, Rachelle. Plus the theater is one of the nicest 99 seat houses you're going to find in New York. And it's been running eight months to pretty full houses (even though it is only a 90 seat house) so SOMEONE likes it.
And yes, you can walk out at intermission if you don't like it.
I've never done it myself (even waited out "Lestat" which was great, because the second act was much better than the first) but I understand the impulse if something isn't your cup of tea.
I'm jealous of Rytoast for walking out. I unfortunately decided to sit through act 2 and was brain dead after the whole affair. Absolute dreck that should be skipped.
I also saw this show for free a couple of weeks ago. There were three understudies on, including Rachelle Rak(before she was officially bumped up). There were huge groans and murmurs from the audience because there were three understudies on, but during intermission everyone around me was raving about Rak, and she was the definite highlight of the show. The show itself is not good. But, I hear the Robert Newman is good in the show and I can attest to Rak making a great impression.(she is still the same sexy and sassy Fosse performer we remember, but she shows another side of herself that was interesting to see) And of course, Liz Larsen is always great and makes the most of her predictable material.
Overall, I would say it is worth it for the those three performances, especially with a free ticket.
