First ASU bombed
Than Lestat
Than Mame decided not to open there by deciding not to come to Broadway
Is the Palace starting to get "Bad vibes" ?

Posted: 7/17/06 at 10:28amI don't believe in houses having jinxs. Some shows prosper, some do not.

Quoting from the Legally Blonde thread below:
"It is only in recent years that the Palace has had one or two bum shows. It was booked with mostly hits or near hits from the late 70s through 2004: Oklahoma!, Woman of the Year, La Cage aux Folles, The Will Rogers Follies, Beauty and the Beast and Aida. All Shook Up and Lestat hardly mean the theatre has become a jinx house."

Posted: 7/17/06 at 11:04amSuperstitions aside and looking at a practical answer, it's a very large house. Shows can't survive there if they aren't huge hits (or produced by Disney). Mame has nothing to do with that idea, it's just not coming, but neither ASU nor Lestat were big hits and could not survive in a house that big.

It's not the theatre, it was the sickening mediocrity of the last two shows that played there.
If I were a producer, I would be terrified of booking a theatre like the Palace. Sure, if you sell out you can make your money back faster, but if it flops, boy do you go out quick.
