Lion King - yup, saw the movie, need to own it.. loved LOVED the show...
Sunset Boulevard - saw Betty Buckley. she tripped at the beginning of the second act, this is one show i can pop inand sing all the words to (but not very well)
Chicago - the movie was great but there's nothing like seeing it live on stage
Annie Get Your Gun - love them both for different reasons
Hairspray - can't point out one particular song or moment. Harvey was still in when we went, and yes, i saw the movie
Fosse - no Ben Vereen, don't own the DVD, but an enjoyable show... Ann Reinking was in the audience when we saw it in previews and she didn't look pleased at all...
Victor Victoria - saw both Julie and Liza... OY!!! i didn't even know Wildhorn was involved
Mamma Mia - LOVE ABBA
Show Boat - I saw the film version with Ava Gardner and Howard Keel... Lonette McKee was in the show when we saw it back in 1995... My favorite song is Hey Feller...
Ragtime - what can i say... saw it twice and cried both times... i think it works quite well as a stage show...
Cabaret - saw the original production at the Henry Miller with Alan Cumming and Natasha Richardson, and then again at 54 with Brooke Shields (too tall for the role)... i can't remember who the emcee was that time...
The Producers - saw it from high high high up in the balcony... i've only seen bits of the film, but i love Gene Wilder...
Thoroughly Modern Millie - I'm much partial to the film but Sutton Foster is going to be a big star... I don't know much about VIolet but i feel Caroline, Or Change is a modern masterpiece...
Wicked - i was disappointed only because i love the book so much... i feel holzman ruined the story by making it too palatable for the masses... also the music is just blah... it has it's moments but as a whole, it just didn't work for me...
Caroline Or Change - again, a masterpiece...
Assassins - i own the original cast recording... Sondheim is a genius... i recently bought Do I Hear A Waltz? for which he wrote the lyrics... a god, i tell you...
Sweeney Todd - we saw the NY City Opera production with Elaine Paige... I've also seen the Lansbury production on PBS and own the LuPone DVD... i love this show... I'm really looking forward to Pacific Overtures and hopefully will be able to see the Frogs before it closes...
Seussical - enjoyed this show... i grew up with all his books...
The WIld Party - saw the La Chiusa production but own both cast recordings... both have their pluses and minuses but i enjoy them both... i have to say that when i saw this i had the choice to see this or The Green Bird... i wish i had been able to see it...
No. Wicked was not my first but it was my favorite. I live 20 minutes away from NYC so I take advantage of that and go to Broadway frequently. Theres nothing like it :)
And btw...all the people who hate the Wicked threads...why does it bother you so much that there are a lot of threads? You dont have to read them, that's all. If you want to talk about something YOU enjoy, start your own thread or find one thats out there. It's really not that serious.
No, Wicked is not my first bway show. And *gasp* I'm a teenager! Oh watch out, a teenager who knows something about theatre!!
haha wicked. i was just gonna say that. y is everyone so serious. no matter what we do wicked will be making much money and be running for years (and im very happy about that :)). Lets not take things soo seriously
"It doesn't count if the other 29 are The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Aida"
Why not.
lol not that it matters to me, I haven't even seen those. I've seen Saturday Night Fever, Cats, Peter Pan, Little Shop, 42nd Street, Wicked...I think Cats was the absolute first.
Nope... how could Wicked be my first when I haven't even seen it yet?
My first was actually Les Miserables when I was ten. I didn't fully understand it, but I loved it, and that led to my love of broadway. I saw it three years later as well, and loved it even more, as I now knew the story.
-If you don't like your fate, change it. You are your own master.- Aida
my 1st was phantom... back in 5th grade... it was great. probably sounds bad that its my favorite. i've seen plenty of others (but not as many as i wish) that i really love, but phantom still holds something special for me. i didnt see wicked til this summer and yeah, i loved it, but ive got others i love just as much!
The Lion King I own the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD, a true Disney masterpiece. Never got a chance to see the show except for the performance on the Tony Awards and hearing tracks from the OBC so I can't really judge the show.
Sunset Boulevard I saw this in Canada with Diahann Carroll. It was okay. I thought Diahann did a great job, it was great to see her singing live.
Chicago Saw the show, loved it. Saw the movie and I still love it.
Annie Get Your Gun I've never seen this.
Hairspray Haven't had the chance to catch the musical version. The original movie is one of my all-time favorites and I've always seen it as having musical potential so I'm glad someone decided to turn it into one.
Fosse Never saw it live on stage but I own it on DVD with Ben Vereen and Ann Reinking...awesome stuff. Fosse was truly a master!
Victor Victoria I was living in NYC when this played the Marriot Marquis. I saw some performances, including the "Le Jazz Hot" number on a PBS special and it really left me cold.
This is one I feel they dropped the ball on...I've heard the OBC and again I have to tell you I was not impressed.
Give me Julie along with ROBERT PRESTON and LESLEY ANN WARREN any day over the stage version.
Mamma Mia I cannot stand ABBA or their music. Cheesy as all hell.
Show Boat I never saw any production or movie version of this show. That is until 1995 when "my girl" Lonnette McKee did it. I went and was blown away by the story and the songs. I had missed out. I can see why this is a classic. As a bi-racial male it hit home on so many levels.
Ragtime I loved this show, like "Showboat" it hit home on so many levels. Stokes is my idol. That man can do no wrong in my book.
Cabaret I love the movie. Joel Grey is amazing! Like I said before Fosse is a master. I never got to see the Roundabout revival but ive heard the recording and was impressed that they actually took the time and included the songs written especially for the film into this version.
The Producers I've never seen the original 1968 movie or the musical, so I can't comment on this one.
Thoroughly Modern Millie Ditto for this one.
Wicked Never saw this either. Heard the OBC. It's okay, don't know what the bigg fuss is about, but I do have a soft spot for Kristin Chenoweth.
Caroline Or Change I've read so many great things about this show. I'm only sorry I wasn't in NYC to catch it before it closed. It's definitley a show that interests me.
Assassins Never knew their was an "older version of this". I've never heard the score or seen the show so I can't say. As far as Sondheim is concerned: West Side Story, Gypsy, Company, Sunday In The Park With George, etc....need I say more?
Sweeney Todd I've never seen it. Never heard any recording.
Seussical Ditto for this one.
The Wild Party Never saw the musical versions but did catch the 1974 movie starring Raquel Welch and James Coco, which probably isn't the same thing.
Here she is, boys! Here she is, world! Here's Rose!
Curtain up! Light the lights! Play it, boys!
Ya either got it, or ya ain't. And, boys, I got it! Ya like it? Well, I got it!
Some people got it and make it pay. Some people can't even give it away. This people's got it and this people's spreadin' it around! You either have it or you've had it!
Hello, everybody! My name is Rose! What's yours? How do you like them eggrolls, Mr. Goldstone? Hold your hats and hallelujah. Mama's gonna show it to you. Ready or not, shhh, here comes Mama.
Mama's talkin' loud. Mama's doin' fine. Mama's gettin' hot. Mama's goin' stong. Mama's movin' on. Mama's all alone. Mama doesn't care. Mama's lettin' loose. Mama's got the stuff. Mama's lettin' go. Mama? Mama's got the stuff. Mama's gotta move. Mama's gotta go. Mama? Mama? Mama's gotta let go.
Why did I do it? What did it get me? Scrapbooks full of me in the background. Give 'em love and what does it get ya? What does it get ya? One quick look as each of 'em leaves you. All your life and what does it get ya? Thanks a lot and out with the garbage, They take bows and you're battin' zero.
I had a dream. I dreamed it for you, June. It wasn't for me, Herbie. And if it wasn't for me then where would you be, Miss Gypsy Rose Lee?
Well, someone tell me, when is it my turn? Don't I get a dream for myself? Starting now it's gonna be my turn. Gangway, world, get off of my runway! Starting now I bat a thousand! This time, boys, I'm taking the bows and
everything's coming up Rose! Everything's coming up roses! Everything's coming up roses this time for me! For me! For me! For me! For me! For me! For me!
"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."
The Lion King Saw the movie, and i like the musical but i wasn't crazy over it.
Sunset Boulevard i never saw the show but i used to listen to it on the way to school when i was 5.
Chicago I liked the movie better than the show. I'm not sure who was in it.
Annie Get Your Gun my friend from school co-starred along with peters as jesse, so peters. ha.
Hairspray I love nicest kids in town, i loved the show, michael mckean was my edna and he was fabulous. fantastic.
Fosse no, no and no.
Victor Victoria im too young.
Mamma Mia im not crazy about abba, but this musical did entertain me. it was also fun to watch my parents dance at the end.
Show Boat my parents had me watch this movie. it was alright.
Ragtime :-
Cabaret my parents wouldn't let me see this when i had the opportunity, but i've seen a high school put it on. i love this show.
The Producers it's playing in DC right now, i should really go see it.
Thoroughly Modern Millie I have respect for sutton foster, but i had no interest in seeing this after hearing the music. I almost saw it with Amanda Bolton in London.
Wicked love it.
Caroline Or Change based on the tony performance, i decided not to see this. it was either this or avenue q.
Assassins i love this show and i wish i could've seen it before the end of it's run.
Sweeney Todd my friend is obsessed with this, i like the music but never saw the show.
Seussical ehh...
The Wild Party lippa...don't you ever want to be the life of the party?
