And he did RENT...

Richard has had a very successful career since Rent. I would imagine that there are many actors who would love to have had his variety of shows, regardless of the type.

...so what? Does that say anything about his acting ability? I don't think it matters one bit.
Interesting how the original poster wasn't the one to bring up the idea that actors in movie-based musicals are less talented. I don't see any comment on Blake's talent or ability in the original post, one way or the other. It's just an observation.

It doesn't matter to me what he's in, I like him.

I saw him in Hairspray and he was absolutely great. Then I saw him in Wedding Singer and again, so impressive!
He's a cutie too.

As far as I am concerned, he was the best part of "The Wedding Singer". His Tony in "Saturday Night Fever" was spectacular both on Broadway and on tour. He's been working in the theatre since he was a child. He was excellent as a teenager as Rolf in the Marie Osmond tour of "The Sound of Music". He was very good a Link Larkin. He's the only reason I've bought tickets for "Legally Blonde". I even liked him in "Aida" even though I wasn't crazy about that show. Richard is a very talented man. I've never seen him give anything less than a great performance no matter what show he is in.
How old is he anyway?
hes young.. cant be over 30. he was fantastic in SNF. I have seen him in every show he has done in NYC and have to say his Tony was fabulous. Probably my favorite role he's done.
Actually, you're wrong about Richard's age. He just looks really good for his age. I don't think its right to disclose his age on the boards, though.
Richard has sounded excellent in everything I have heard him in and has been all around fantastic in everything i've seen him in. He is up there as one of my top Radames in "Aida" - he has a beautiful solo when he went on for the soloist in Rent the few times he did - he was a great Mark and Roger. He is so versatile. People make jokes about him playing the jerk boyfriend, I mean, even he does!! But he has done so much, it's ridiculous.
I think this original poster just meant to point out how weird it is that he continually does musicals based on movies, but the fact is, his background spans so many shows, that it's hard to say that.

Richard is a wonderful performer. I have seen him several times. I thought he was the best thing in Wedding Singer. It is so amazing how long he has been performing from a child to an adult not many people in the theatre have had a successful career like that, and he is just getting better all the time. He is also a very sweet and down to earth guy.
Carryme, even though you said it's wrong to "disclose someones age" you started your sentence by saying "you're wrong about Richard's age, he just looks really young" that's kind of like giving it away. WHO CARES how old anyone is? Kristen Cheno, the absolute all time biggest BWW obsession is almost 40 and that's if we're not "wrong". As for Blake's body of work, there are only so many musicals to go around, at least he's always employed.

ruprecht, exactly. Caryme is intimating that Richard is "old" and that's just not true. Did you even see him in Rent, caryme? I don't recall you being around back then.
The better, more seasoned, more adept performers are ALL over 30 and are far better at their craft the older they get than when they were in their teens' and 20's. I've followed the careers of many (Blake, Orfeh, Menzel, Cheno, Anika Rose, Skinner the list is long) in and out of musical theater and IMO, they are all light years better now than when they were younger and just starting out. Some on that list, I'm not even crazy about but still have to admit get better and better. So, yes who cares what the resume lists and how many movie musicals there are on it?

He was robbed of a Tony nomination for Prince of Central Park...
I've been lucky enough to see him in Saturday Night Fever, Hairspray, and TWS!

I guess that depends on one's own interpretation of "old" - to a 16 year old, 35 could be "old." To me, 35 is definitely not old. (I don't know how old Richard is, I'm just speaking in general.)
I did see him in RENT though, and he was a really good Roger. He was also great as Tony in Saturday Night Fever. And he's a really nice guy, so I'm glad he's constantly working. He works hard at his craft and deserves to be successful.
yeah I def. agree that a job is a job....who cares what he is in.

My God Richard is only 31. If you look on the IMDB. Thats still young, and its great that he has been working since he was 7. Thats 24 years. How many people can say that by 31 they have had a steady career in show business, and its just getting better. I think he and his career are incredible. I wish him many more years of success!

For all of the movies-turned-musicals that he's done, Richard has also done a lot of other stuff. And he's fantastic, so who cares either way?
