99% most likely. Nothing fares well in that theater for the fact that it's out of the way....like the Cort and the Lyceum.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 2:31pmIt's not that far out of the way, if I remember correctly. Granted it's not like some of the other theaters. I would imagine some play featuring some celebe will snatch it up.

Cort Theatre**
Yes, I too think the location hurts it quite a bit.

The Lyceum isn't out of the way, at least not in my opinion. Everytime I walk through times square I notice it right a way. However, I do agree that the Cort has a horrible location.
Are there any shows planned for a New York run that do not have a theater? The only one I can think of is Legends, but thats not for a while.

re: Is the Belasco Booked#9
Posted: 8/30/06 at 8:11pmI'm sorry I meant to say plays. I know there are a ton of musicals planning to make it to New York, but wouldn't the Belasco fit a play more. I mean Curtains would need a much larger theater.

Posted: 8/31/06 at 1:21amWhy did it take so long after Julius Caesar for the Belasco to book a show (Awake and Sing). Was it renovated?

The Belasco has a few strikes against it that make it one of the least in-demand theatres.
It is east of Broadway, almost on Sixth Avenue, making it seem remote.
There are less seats in the prime orchestra level than in some other Broadway houses, meaning you have a lower profit margin.
It has a seperate entrance for the balcony, with I believe over 200 seats up there that are difficult to sell.
Though it features one of the most unique interiors of any Broadway theatre, the Belasco is generally in poor condition, and needs a full scale renovation, to restore the (missing? stolen?) Tiffany light fixtures, whitewashed mahagonny woodwork, faded murals and the missing lower boxes that were snapped off and never restored after the run of the original Rocky Horror Show in 1975.
Some producers choose the Belasco because of the theatre's incredible atmosphere. Awake and Sing specifically wanted it because the original production premiered there. For everyone else, though, it's a theatre of last resort. Even the Longacre seems to be coming back in vogue (with at least higher profile productions like Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Well and now, Talk Radio) more than the Belasco.
