Maybe to fill that empty spot in the Ahmanson theatre season in LA?

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Oh wow, I really want this to happen...

This just popped into my head, but what if Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett had done it in the 80's? With Julie as Phyllis and Carol as Sally?
"

I truly cannot imagine any casting that would be worse than that.  Julie Andrews' voice was never Phyllis, although she can do cold as ice very well; and I have never seen Carol Burnett give a convincing dramatic performance other than the TV movie 30 years or so ago, Friendly Fire, in which unfortunately i Still couldn't convince myself that she want Carol Burnett.  I thought she ruined I'm Still Here on the Carnegie Hall concert, and she just does not convey fragility to me.

To each their own. I think Julie's rendition of "Could I Leave You" from "Putting it Together" is one of the best there is-- I'm not sure what you mean about her voice, I think her 80's and 90's voice is perfect for the score, although if it's a reference to her accent-- is there any reason Phyllis couldn't have been a British immigrant? Honest question. As for Carol, I think she could have brought a heartbreaking honesty to Sally that would have been beautifully effective. This is a Sally who could truly never have what Phyllis has.

Their real life friendship would also elevate the casting-- two women whose lives took on very different paths, when 30 years later, you're almost surprised they ever became friends at all. In their work together, they've always played off on a sort of playful envy of the other-- a grass is always greener dynamic.

Of course, Julie and Carol's lives have been, if not happier than Sally and Phyllis', at least certainly more successful, both in terms of what they've accomplished professionally and in their relationship with one another.

I always thought about an Andrews-Streisand Follies with them as Phyllis and Sally.
