Is the Wicked cancellation line worth it?

I'm going to NYC on Decmber 3rd. I have tickets for that Friday night, and the following Saturday night for Phantom of the Opera and Wonderful Town, respectively. I'd really like to catch Wicked again before Ms. Menzel departs and because I'd really like to see Jennifer Laura Thompson and George Hearn. I'm contemplating doing the cancellation line, but I don't want to waste my Saturday morning at the Gershwin and not get tickets for Wicked when I could tickets for another show. What time would be best to arrive to be, like, the first person in line? How many tickets usually get sold? Like I said, I'm just afraid of wasting my time, but I do really want to see it. Thanks for your help, guys.

The best day to go would be on a Wed. or Sat. and get there around 2:00 (when the matinee show starts) and you'll be first in line for the night show. And yes, it is absolutely worth it. You'll be waiting for a few hours but they always give away at least like 6-8 seats.... and they're always orchestra, and well worth it.

And waiting a few hours to see JLT (ok fine... and Idina) makes it all worth while!

It really depends on the weekend. Some weeks there is already a line when the b.o. opens at 10. I had friends who were there last Saturday and said there was a HUGE cancellation line very early, and a huge lotto, as well.
JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

hey, you know how your thing says "for me for me" what is that from its like everythings coming up...something?
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

If you really want to see it, be there by 9am for the matinee. The cancellation line is your only hope these days (don't get me started on the madness of the lottery)...

And if you're lucky, you don't have to wait for too long. They start selling the cancellation tickets hours before the show. Good luck re: Is the Wicked cancellation line worth it?

I don't know if you've tried this already, but about a month ago I found out I was going to NY in a few weeks, and I managed to get tickets for Wicked through telecharge online on a week's notice. Miracle, hmm? And get this...second row Mezzanine!! It's worth a try. It takes a bit of fiddling round to get what you want, though.

You can also get them day of or day before through ticketmaster. Last night there were fourth row center orchestra seats up for grabs.

Normally, they are orchestra seats, so $100, though I don't know what new policies they have in place since the introduction of the $300 premium seats. If someone is turning in tickets to the box office, you have to have cash to buy them. Otherwise, credit cards are fine.

I got tickets two Wednesdays ago for the 8 pm show. I got in line at about quarter to 7 pm--I only waited for about 20 minutes, and got tickets in Row G of the Orch--100 big one, but it was great--Very easy.

I went about two weeks ago and though I had been planning on doing the cancellation line, a friend came through and got us house seats.

I have a few friends that have done cancellation line though, and it has worked out for them every time. Be ready to wait though.

I've never been lucky enough. I keep checking, but I'm not coming up with anything.

Everytime I look for day of or day-before tickets, I never get any. I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

I'm trying the Lotto and Cancellation Line for that matinee show too! Maybe I'll see you there.

I planned on trying the lotto, and waiting in the cancellation line to better my chances. Thanks for posting. Now I know to get to the B.O. asap.

It's almost impossible to do the lottery AND the cancellation line.

If you don't win the lottery and then try to join the cancellation line it's usually to late anyway.

Don't even bother with the lottery these days... if you are desperate to get in it has to be the cancellation line. And I've never been that lucky either, that cancellation tickets popped up at Ticketmaster the day before. Never happened to me.

It wouldn't be possible to sign my mother and I up for the lotto while standing in the cancellation line? Even if each of us holds our spot in line?

Call me optimistic...I'm still going for it.

PJ, when I went, I stood in the cancellation line and saw people try to use similar strategies and the concept itself could work, if it wasn't for the larger man in the suit with the cane. He kinda runs the pregame debacle and he gets a little power happy. Anyway I watched him kick 3 different parties out of the cancellation for what he refered to as "doubletiming". I also saw people who got away with waiting in both lines, but none of them got tix. Good luck!

PJ - you're perfectly welcome to try it, but it's a game of chance. If your name is called, and you are standing on the cancellation line (even if your mom is outside at lotto), they'll rip up your card and call another one.
