Years ago in Chicago there was an organization called the Playwrights Center. The PC performed weekly play readings with actors. All playwrights were welcome. No restrictions or requirements were placed upon the play. It could cover any topic, written by any person, no social or political themes mandatory. I saw two comedies I liked: "You can Dance with Any Gorilla as Long as You go Ape Over Me," and "The Repossession of Uncle Eddy." Upon searching for a similar group in Chicago that does weekly play readings I found none, to date. I just wrote to a group called the Writers Bloc. They never even answered. I wrote to another group. They required the writer to recruit and pay for all the actors. Another placed emphasis on the ethnicity of the author (DEI). Does anyone have knowledge of an ensemble or theatre group in Chicago or Northwest Indiana that does weekly play readings and welcomes all playwrights? I have a new comedy play. And it is written for adults in the sense that the subject matter and dialogue reflects real people, their hardships and the hills they have to climb to defeat the problems of life. And yes, it is a comedy. NOTE: Ed Asner was one of the performers at the Playwrights Center in Chicago. Let me know.
