Bring The Witch a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn and a slipper as pure as gold and she'll tell you that it is on most major podcast services (i.e., Apple Podcasts, Spotify, et al).  Just search for the podcast name at the service site.

Trump Takeover of the country
 Mar 6 2026, 02:49:54 PM

National Symphony Executive Director quits citing turmoil at the Kennedy Center. (NYT gift link)

Also from the NYT:

"Representative Joyce Beatty, Democrat of Ohio, asked a federal court to block President Trump from closing Washington’s premier arts center for two years for what the president has called a “complete rebuilding.” Citing Mr. Trump’s sudden demolition of the White House’s East Wing last year, Ms. Beatty warned that he could be planning to raze the center. Ms. Beatty, an ex officio member of the center’s board, has already sued seeking the removal of his name from the venue."

Big Musicals - Will They Come Back
 Mar 4 2026, 08:44:25 PM

True, but we've also seen the power of great stories and songs in inspired settings ... l the elements of a production reinforcing and amplifying the others into something where the whole is more than the some of its parts.

I imagine many people on this site can easily recall sets that contributed to the success of a production.  Some were no doubt lavish and grand, but others were simpler yet still memorable and evocative.

Chicago Spring/Summer 2026
 Mar 2 2026, 08:10:02 PM

Just saw this in the Chicago Tribune:

Separately, Chicago Shakespeare Theater says it has postponed its previously announced production of the musical “Ain’t Misbehavin'” due to performer schedule conflicts and has replaced it with a new marital comedy by Scooter Pietsch, titled “Fault.”

Teri Hatcher and Enrico Colantoni will star, with Jason Alexander returning to Chicago Shakespeare to direct. Performances will begin on April 18 and run through May 24 in The Yard on Navy Pier (tickets and more information at www.chicagoshakes.com).

Kennedy Center Honors
 Feb 28 2026, 11:56:40 AM

While certainly not the most pressing matter they should address, if Democrats regain the majority in one (or both) chambers of Congress, I do hope they launch investigations into the renaming, renovation, et al, and try to undo the damage Trump and Grenell have done.

Donald Trump bioplay DONALD from THE LEHMAN TRILOGY author Stefano Massini sets UK premiere
 Feb 28 2026, 10:54:38 AM

Kad said: "Yeah the last thing I need to see is Trump from the perspective of the British."

Serious question: Is there a playwright whose perspective on Trump would you find appealing?

My hunch is Kushner could do justice to his terrible reign even if Trump himself was not necessarily a real character in the play.

Kennedy Center Honors

I guess this was inevitable.

Washington Post:

The Kennedy Center Honors will continue during closure — with a new name

President Richard Grenell announced that the awards show would be moved to an alternate venue and be renamed the “Trump Kennedy Center Honors.”

Chris Pine to make London stage debut in IVANOV at Bridge Theatre

Now postponed to 2027, but kudos to The Bridge Theatre for this:

"If you're not ready to commit to a date next year we'll happily hold your booking to be used either for Ivanov next year or as credit for any other production at The Bridge. (Naturally, we won't apply 2027 price rises to the new dates for Ivanov.)"

I continue to be impressed and grateful for how easily one can return or exchange tickets with so many London theatres and am hap

Snow storm / blizzard - Feb 22 & 23

Kad said: "To be fair, airlines have to be far more proactively responsive to inclement weather (or even the possibility of it).

Absolutely.  In sharing my flight cancellation experience for today and tomorrow, I wasn't suggesting theaters should follow their example.  Was just adding another data point to what is unfolding.

Snow storm / blizzard - Feb 22 & 23

Just got a cancellation email for my return flight to NYC late this afternoon as are all evening options and 2/3 of my options for tomorrow.  Clearly, the airlines think this will be a big deal.

Why don’t they remount A Chorus Line at the Shubert?

Merkin2 said: "I think a 16 week limited engagement would do well. Why is A Chorus Line niche and yet Dreamgirls and Damn Yankees and Evita and Fiddler on the Roof coming in."

God I hope you get it. I hope you get it.

How many chances do you need?
