Jack the Ripper. There's an empty place in my heart waiting to be filled by a great Jack the Ripper musical.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 4:49pmHistory musicals tend not to go down very well (Rex, I and Albert, Thomas and the King, Ben Franklin in Paris, La Révolution Française). Apart from 1776, I can't think of one that has been successful.

Jesus Christ Superstar, Scrippsy?
Parade, Floyd Collins, both financial flops but critical darlings, so only half-floppy.
What's that one about the Argentinian bint again? Maybe you won't know it, it was the '70s after all...

Assassins, Gypsy, The King And I, Sunday In The Park With George. I think I've exhausted all the cast recordings on my iPod that reference real people. :)
I do get where you were coming from though, there's a big difference between a musical that happens to be set in the past and a musical about a historical figure. I still get points for Evita though.
