I have gotten quite a few non-theater friends to go see it. They seem to like my taste in things and figured if I like it that they would as well. Plus I have good persuasive powers! Most who have seen it said they really liked it.
On a side, sad note, Saturday is the end of the movie playing in Philadelphia. Looks like they are freeing the screens for The Producers.

I've had to put up with that frustration. They also refuse to see The Producers
I'm having an opposite problem- my friend, who has never seen Rent on stage, went to see the film (I tried to warn her to see it on stage first, I did!!), since she likes musicals. She *hated* the film. She actually really liked the songs, but hated everything else- the spoken dialogue, the way scenes were shot, the forced feel of some scenes and how some other scenes made no sense (she totally caught the Thelma and Louise thing, and other stuff), everything. The word 'craptastic' (sorry) was used.
Since she liked the songs I have been trying to convince her that she'll love it on stage, where there's none of the talking bits, no Chris Columbus-ization of scenes, none of the stuff she hated, but since she hated the film she doesn't want to go see it on stage now...
nope there all theater people

That hasnt happend to me, but what has happend are people who didnt want to see it because it's "The Aids Play"...
Actually, I've managed to get a number of my non-theatre-type friends (I actually have some now) to go with me to see it. Most of them have loved it. One or two are now psyched to see the stage show
